LITERACY

This week we with be reading about stories from other cultures using the book ‘One World Together.’ Children will be listening and discussing a wide range of stories from their pervious experiences, practise composing a sentence orally before writing it and discussing what they have written.

MATHS

Our Mathematical focus this week is money, in particular the recognition of British coins. Across the week we will focus on knowing the value of each coin, adding simple totals of coins and solving money based problems. One key area of understanding this week is finding different ways to make the same totals, for example 1p+1p+1p = 3p, as does 2p+1p.

THEMED LEARNING

This week we will continue exploring the senses with children. We will be performing experiments to explore just how the senses allow us to interact with the world around us as well as some of the words associated with each one. The children will be identifying objects through sound, smell and touch as well as describing how objects taste and appear.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Our coding lessons continue this week as the children begin to be more competent in their use of basic coding structures. The children are now creating codes for more than one character at a time.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish – This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds- i, n, m and d. They will be combining them with previous sounds to make new words such as dad and man. They will also be learning the new sounds g and o. They will practise reading and writing the words got, dot and dog. They will also be learning to blend and read the high frequency words- and, on and into.

Sharks –  The Sharks are continuing to look at methods of decoding and reading a variety of cvcc words. We have focussed on identifying incorrect spellings of common words and correcting them. We have continued to remind ourselves of the reading of tricky words and spelling continues to be an area that we will focus on.

Jellyfish – This week the Jellyfish phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will then be learning the new sounds; ar, or,   igh and  ur. They will practise reading and writing the words; market, car, cart, hard lord, born, torn, sort, tight, might, right, sight, fur, burn, burp and curl. They will also be learning to read the high frequency words; my, for and too.

Starfish -  This week Starfish will be learning alternative pronunciations for ‘i’ and ‘o’ and reading and spelling polysyllabic words. Some children will also learn what happens to the meaning of a verb when they add the ‘ing’ suffix.

Octopus- This week the Octopus phonics group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds- x, z, zz, qu, th ai and ng . They will then be learning the new sounds ee, igh and oa. They will also be learning to read and write the high frequency words: we, all and my.
