Week Beginning 14 November 2016

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a coat during the cold/wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.

LITERACY

In Literacy the children will complete our unit of work on Fantasy Stories. The children will be learning how to about writing in the past tense in the continuouis form. They will orally retell a fantasy story with a partner and then work together to rewrite their story using all the features that they have learnt over the previous weeks. During Guided Reading lessons the children will continue to read and analyse the book The Magic Finger by the classic children author, Roald Dahl.

Past tense, ‘ed words,’ irregular and regular verbs

MATHS

In Maths, the children will begin a unit to learn division. The children will be applying the strategies they learnt during the previous weeks work on multiplication to understand the correlation between division and multiplication. The children will then be given mental and written problems and asked to decide which strategy is the most effective for a given problem.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning the children will continue to carry out an investigation into the relative properties of different materials. The children will be designing and making bridges using a range of materials and then devising their own way to test the relative success of their bridges.

Test, experiment, structure, force, types of bridges – cater lever, arch, beam and suspension

PSHCE

The children will be focusing on expressing their ideas, opinions and views with confidence.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will be learning to add a variable to a series of codes.
