MESSAGES

  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat now that the temperature has dropped.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

LITERACY

In Literacy the children will be learning how to use inverted commas for speech (speech marks). They will begin the week by creating small comic strips using the app Superhero Comic Maker. They will then add speech bubbles to this work to help the children understand which parts of a story are spoken. Finally, they will write their comics as a narrative piece and place all the spoken words inside inverted commas for speech.

MATHS

The children will complete our unit of work on number by learning how to recognise and write fractions of amounts. The children will learn how to find ½ and ¼ of a given even number to 30 by sharing objects into 2 or 4 groups respectively. Once the children have grasped this, they will begin to represent this by using pictorial methods such as the method show below:

This method will then be used to find ¾ and 1/3’s of amounts. Some children will further embed this work by finding ½ and ¼’s of money for example; what is a ¼ of 1 pound?

THEMED LEARNING

This week the children will complete a two week unit of work where they will learn about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. They will look at Van Gogh’s self-portraits in chronological order. Then with a partner they will ask and answer question about Van Gogh and discuss the pictures to see what they notice. They will then look at several of his other most famous paintings. Following this, the children will read the book Camille and the Sunflowers by Laurence Anholt and watch a children’s documentary about the famous artist. Once they have gathered this knowledge they will write a letter to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam informing them of everything they have learnt.
