Week Beginning 7 November 2016

School holiday- Please note that school will be closed to pupils on Friday 11th November, Monday 14th November and Tuesday 15th November.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a coat during the cold/wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.

LITERACY

In Literacy the children will continue our unit of work on Fantasy Stories. The children will be reading a story about a girl who goes on a magic adventure in a boat. The children will learn how to use expanded noun phrases effectively to improve their narrative writing. During Guided Reading lessons the children will continue to read and analyse the book The Magic Finger by the classic children author, Roald Dahl.

MATHS

In Maths, the children will begin a two week unit to learn multiplication. They will begin the week by counting in  2, 5 and 10 and then move onto investigating how numbers can be put into groups of 2’s, 5 and 10’s. Following this, they will write addition sums to represent these groups to introduce the notion that multiplication is repeated addition e.g. 3x4  = 3+3+3+3. Once the children have understood this concept they will begin to draw arrays to represent mulitplicaton calucations. The children will then be given mental and written problems and asked to solve them using one of the strategies they have learnt over the week.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning the children will continue to carry out an investigation into the relative properties of different materials. The children will be designing and making bridges using a range of materials and then devising their own way to test the relative success of their bridges.

PSHCE

The children will be focusing on expressing their ideas, opinions and views with confidence.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

Naar aanleiding van het boek `De geweldigste, meest fantastische opa`s ter wereld` hebben we  het over het schoolleven vroeger en nu.  Hoe zag de klas van jouw opa of oma eruit?  Hadden ze toen al computers?  Hoe gingen oma en opa naar school?  De kinderen zullen een vragenlijst opstellen voor oma en opa.  Indien u tijdens het lange weekend tijd kan maken voor een Skype- of Face Timegesprek met oma of opa zou dit geweldig zijn.
