Week Beginning 10 April 2017

Welcome back to Term 3 - we are looking forward to an exciting term.

MESSAGES

  • Thank you so much  to all families for supporting us last term with all of our activities.  The children benefited greatly from all of your support.
  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • TERM 3 ECA/BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming Programmes will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Friday 16June 2017. Confirmation letters will be sent out during the first week back.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we will begin our Adventure story genre. This is based on looking at ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. We shall read the first few chapters and look at the main characters. Concentrating on using interesting vocabulary to describe them. The work will culminate in the children creating their own character for a story later in the unit.

MATHS

In Maths, the children will be learning more on place value. They will compare and order numbers up to 1000. Children will have the opportunity to solve number problems and practical problems involving these ideas, as well as understanding the importance of estimating answers.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning we shall begin our new topic on Chocolate by asking ‘Where does chocolate come from?’ and ‘Where is chocolate manufactured?’ The children will explore the countries where cacao trees grow and countries that produce chocolate in its many forms.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

In Computer Programming the children will learn how to use safer search engines. They will understand which search engines are appropriate for their use. There will be discussion on internet safety led by the class teacher.

PSHCE

In PHSCE the children this week will look at forming lasting friendships. What makes a good friend and how we resolve conflicts. The children will work on a number of strategies, and look at how we are all working together as a class.

DUTCH

Kunst met een grote K

We vervolgen het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. We leggen dit thema de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren van kunst en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Grote Kunst voor Kleine Kenners’,  ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

De leerlingen van Y3 en 4 starten met het maken van een Muurseum. De leerlingen van Y5 en 6 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. We kijken deze week naar diverse werken van door de leerlingen geselecteerde kunstenaars. Wat is mooi en wat is lelijk? Het onderbouwen van de mening staat daarbij centraal.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week the children will be revising the key vocabulary associated with items in their pencil case, classroom and school subjects. They will create a short presentation ‘showcasing’ their classroom and telling others about what is there.
There will be no homework due to the holiday next week

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

The first week back after the holiday we will continue to look at different types of food, and state our opinions on these.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

After the Spring Break we will start our new topic `Un bonjour de Chine!`. We will start up an exchange project with the British School in Ho Chi Minh City, presenting ourselves in French and making a self - portrait.

There will be no homework due to the holiday next week.  Bonnes vacances!
