Week Beginning 12 September 2016

Thursday 15 and Friday 16 are school holidays and we return on Monday 19 September.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • ECA and BISCAP confirmation letters have been sent. Both programmes will begin on Monday 12 September.

LITERACY

This week the children will be continuing their investigation of non-fiction texts. They will start to create an introductory paragraph about their class dinosaur.  Building upon the text map work started last week, children will amend the text map to suit their dinosaur.  This will involve them creating their own text map, to aid their sentence and paragraph structuring. By the end of the week, the children will have written the introduction to their own information text on their class dinosaur.

MATHS

This week we will be investigating the children’s  knowledge and understanding of place value. They will be consolidating on their prior knowledge from Year 2 before creating, reading and writing numbers up to 1000 in numerals and words, before beginning to compare and order numbers up to 1000. Place value will be explored through games and activities.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning, the children will be investigating the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The children will become an expert in a particular period and will then teach others in the class. They will explore what the world was like in each period, some of the famous dinosaurs from each period and whether any other animals roamed the Earth at the same time. The learning will be presented in the form of poster of one of the three key periods.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will be continuing to learn to use the programme Dance Mat. This is amined at helping them to  increase their typing speed. We will be encouraging them to access this at home and school to practice further.  They will be starting on Level 3, to consolidate their learning so far and to increase confidence.

PSHCE

With the children now settled into their new classes, we will spend time developing our collaboration skills and learning to effectively communicate, in small groups and in front of the whole class.  We will concentrate on our speaking and listening skills, as we learn new collaborative learning structures.

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De medewerkers van KS2 van Reisbureau SDS blijken zeer ervaren reizigers die fantastisch kunnen putten uit eigen ervaringen bij het oriënteren, plannen en beschrijven van hun reis voor de reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. . De leerlingen werken deze week aan hun reisprogramma: een beschrijving van dag-tot-dag incl. details over slaapplekken, kosten, vluchten, etc.

Year  3/ 4 Native French:  Mrs Rickford

La semaine prochaine, nous allons travailler sur le vocabulaire de la classe et continuer à faire de la compréhension écrite avec le texte “Pourquoi les gommes n’ont-elles pas de pattes?”. Nous travaillerons sur le son “O”.
Pour les devoirs, les élèves  vont faire deux exercices pour renforcer leur orthographe des mots avec le son “o”.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir das ABC und die alphabetische Reihenfolge in unserer Klasse (mit den Namen) wiederholt und geübt. Später haben wir ein Gedicht mit Ausdruck vorgelesen und in Paaren auswendig zu erzählen geübt.
Zu Hause sehen sich die Kinder den Text „Der Neue“ im Booklet an und machen die Aufgaben wie auf den Extrablättern angegeben, die die Schüler in ihren Plastikmappen haben.
