Week Beginning 14 November 2016

Please remember school is closed from Friday 11th to Tuesday 15th, and reopened Wednesday 16th November.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a raincoat for wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we are continuing with our letters unit. This has involved the children investigating letters; discussing who writes letters and why, and looking at their features and layout. By the end of this week the children will be writing a letter to the famous author, Julia Donaldson. To enable them to do this, the unit will include discussing, comparing and contrasting different books by Julia, and learning key facts about her.

MATHS

In Maths this week, the children will be learning about fractions. They will look at what a fraction is and how to find the fraction of a shape and a quantity.

THEMED LEARNING

Over the next two weeks the children, on rotation, will be working with technology. The children will cover one aspect of computer programming. They will be learning about robotics by building and programming simple robots from the LEGO WeDo Kit. They will also be learning about the purpose of a database. This will involve the children initially having to answer question and create graphs with a paper database to find out how long it can take to sort through information. They will  then start to interrogate pre-made databases to answer questions and create graphs, which they will find is much quicker. The unit will finish with the children creating their own dinosaur dataset for their peers to use.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will continue learning the foundations of computer programming. They will be using the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

De leerlingen gaan deze week verder in op het stellen van open en gesloten vragen. We oefenen het interview met opa of oma in tweetallen en viertallen in de klas. De leerlingen filmen elkaar en luisteren kritisch naar elkaars interviews.

Ook verdiepen we ons in beeldspraak. Denk daarbij aan zegswijzen en spreekwoorden als: het gezin is de hoeksteen van de samenleving, het komt in de beste families voor, een aardje naar je vaartje hebben, het zit in je genen, het bloed kruipt waar het niet gaan kan, het zit in de familie, je eigen vlees en bloed en de appel valt niet ver van de boom. We spelen Taboe en ‘Who’s the man’ met deze spreekwoorden.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

This week we will be continuing to construct descriptive sentences using learned vocabulary (including ‘Soy’) and adjectives such as colours.  We will learn how to describe whether things are big or small.

Next we will make our own family tree, naming our family members in French.  We will read  the story `Ma maman`  about a little  elephant who`s looking for his mum.  Acting out the story we will revise family related vocabulary and animal names.

Auch nächste Woche wird der Straβenverkehr, die Regeln und die damit verbundenen Geschichten unser Thema sein. Hausaufgaben gibt es diese Woche nicht.
