Week Beginning 17 April 2017

TERM 3 ECA/BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming Programmes will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Friday 16 June 2017.

MESSAGES

  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottle to avoid items getting lost in school.
  • Year 3 will be basing our work around “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory “by Roald Dahl, It would be fantastic if you could support the children out of school by helping them to read the book and/or watch the film to get them all ready for learning in class.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we will continue looking at ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. Having explored the characters, we will now turn our attention to the different rooms found in the factory. We will look closely at how Roald Dahl describes the rooms and will collect exciting vocabulary. We will be starting to write our own setting descriptons with a  particular focus on prepositions of place. By the end of the week the children will have created their own chocolate factory room. This will be used as a launch pad to writing their own adventure story inside ‘Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory’.

MATHS

This week the children will work on consolidating their understanding of addition and subtraction with Great British Pounds. They will also work on giving change, using both £ and p in practical contexts.

THEMED LEARNING

“Chocolate”

The children will start to explore the exciting world of the Aztecs. To introduce them to the Aztecs, the children will focus on Aztec art. They will be covering the techniques of weaving this week and printing. They will be using these skills to create an Eye of God and will be tie-dying fabric to print on using their own printing blocks.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

The children will continue to develop their safer searching skills. They will understand which search engines are appropriate for their use. In addition, discussions and teaching will place an emphasis on how to keep safe online.

Kunst met een grote K

De leerlingen van Year 3 en Year 4 bouwen deze week aan een woordbank met woorden die te maken hebben met het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. Ook kiezen ze een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen waarover ze een fantasieverhaal schrijven in de stijl van ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’. De verhalen krijgen zeker een plekje in ons Muurseum.

De leerlingen van Year 5 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. Ook zij starten met het schrijven van een fantasieverhaal gebaseerd op een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen.

Next week the children will be learning the names of body parts!  They will be drawing themselves and labelling the features of their face and main body limbs.
For homework this week the children will be revising vocabulary associated with Spring and will be completing an Spring wordsearch.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

This week we will continue working on our pen pal project `Un bonjour de Chine!`.  We finish our self portraits and record our presentations so we can send them to our friends in the British School of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

This week`s homework will be practising the vocabulary we need for writing our letter by completing the Word Search `Faire La Connaissance`.

Zu Hause sollen die Kinder das Arbeitsblatt „Monate“ machen, und zwar auf der Hinterseite 10 Sätze schreiben, wann sie was machen.
