Week Beginning 24 October 2016

The Hearing Screening Test will be held on Monday 24 October for those children already signed up.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy the children are continuing to immerse themselves in the genre of myths. They will be working on building their vocabulary to help them describe the characters from Theseus and the Minotaur. Their focus will be on description of both how the character looks and how the character moves. Then they will use this expanded vocabularly to create their own mythical creature, which will feature in their writing. By the end of the week the children will start planning their own Greek myth.

MATHS

In Maths this week, the children will be focusing on developing their problem solving skills and understanding what has been asked of them. They will be using estimation and rounding  to help them to check their answers . Another method for checking we will look at is using the inverse . There will be an opportunity throughout the week to revisit the four operations that we have learnt about in the last few weeks.

THEMED LEARNING

This week is the first of two week of learning about rocks. The children will become geologists as we spend time examining rocks, focusing on their properties and characteristics. Later in the week classes will begin to create their own rocks using food products.  igneous rocks using candles and sedimentary rocks using food.

See the children explore fossils. As  paleantologists  the children will create their own fossils, using a variety of methods: trace fossils in playdough, bones using a salt solution, and insects trapped in amber. There will be opportunities for the children to discuss and record their findings using Skitch on the year group ipads.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will begin a new unit looking at the foundations of computer programming. They will be starting to use the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

Aanslutiend op de kinderboekenweek in Nederland start ons tweede thema: Vroeger was alles ...

We poetsen onze interviewtechnieken op ter voorbereiding van een interview met opa of oma op  Skype; onderzoeken wat opa’s en oma’s vroeger deden (want hoe is het leven zonder internet en iPad?), schrijven verhalen en denken na over onze families.

Graag ontvangen we van alle leerlingen familiefoto’s: papa, mama, broers en zussen, tante en ooms, neven en nichten en opa’s en oma’s.

Year 3 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will extend French conversation making, presenting ourselves and asking each other`s name.  We will meet the `Barbapapa` family, funny and colourful characters from a French children’s  book series.

This  week’s homework will be practising the names of the colours in French, colouring by number in French. 

Year  3/ 4 Native French:  Mrs Rickford

Cette semaine nous allons travailler sur les son de la lettre s (nous devions faire ça la semaine dernière mais j’ai été absente jeudi) et sur le son « K ». Nous allons aussi travailler sur le verbe, identifier le verbe dans une phrase et  comprendre ce qu’est un infinitif.
Pour les devoirs, les enfants devront compléter des exercices de grammaire sur la feuille.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir die Nomen untersucht, und zwar die Kategorien wie Menschen, Kleidung, Tiere, Pflanzen, Essen und auf spielerische Weise die Rechtschreibung geübt. Grossschreibung stand ganz groβ auf unserem Programm! Zu Hause werden die Kinder das Thema Nomen wiederholen und im Booklet die KV „Auf dem Schulhof“ machen: dabei können dei Schüler selbst entscheiden, ob sie eine einfachere oder schwierigere Übung machen möchten. Die Seite bietet nämlich 2 Schwierigkeitsstufen.
Nächste Woche werden wir unser Unit 1 „In der Schule“ wiederholen und einen Test machen. Am Ende des Booklets sind die Seiten „Geübt und gekonnt“. Wir werden sie im Unterricht machen, aber wenn Sie Ihr Kind unterstuetzen möchten, schauen Sie sich die Seiten zusammen an.
