Week Beginning 26 September 2016

We are running the HSK examination on Saturday 12th November 2016. Registration is open to students, parents and friends who have an interest in taking this test. For more information, please kindly refer to the letter.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  

LITERACY

This week the children will be completing their non-chronological report on their class dinosaur. They will continue by creating their paragraphs on Behaviour and a conclusion for their class dinosaur.  Building upon the text map work they consolidated last week, children will amend the text map to suit their dinosaur.  This will involve them creating their own text map, to aid their sentence and paragraph structuring. By the middle of the week, the children will have written a paragraph about their dinosaur’s behaviour and will go on to write their concluding paragraph before editing and improving their work.

MATHS

This week we will continue to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of addition and subtraction through problem solving. This will give them the opportunity to apply their knowledge of the column addition and column subtraction methods learnt last week.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning, the children will be developing their sketching skills, concentrating on form and proportion to draw a dinosaur.  They will use shading techniques to give their sketch a more 3 dimensional appearance.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will be continuing to learn how to use Microsoft Word. They will be focussing on inserting pictures and WordArt into a document. The children will use their skills to create a favourite dinosaur flyer.

PSHCE

Through both Literacy and Art, the children will be learning how to give each other feedback that is kind, specific and helpful. During our printing unit we will reflect on what has gone well and help others to decide how they can improve their work based on the shared success criteria.

DUTCH

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De verschillende reisbureaus die op de Reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. aanwezig zullen zijn, zijn in de afrondende fase van hun werk. Maandag, dinsdag en woensdag werken de leerlingen aan de inrichting van hun kraam. Hulp van ouders (thuis en op school) is hier zeker bij gewenst!

Bij spelling behandelen we deze week de volgende categorieën:

Groep 4: lange en korte klanken, luchtwoord, zingwoord, plankwoord

Groep 5: open en gesloten lettergrepen (introductie)

Groep 6: open en gesloten lettergrepen (verdieping), tropisch-woord, politie-woord

Groep 7: langermaakwoord (-b, -d), sterke werkwoorden in de verleden tijd

MFL

Year 3  Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week we will be revising classroom instructions and introducing the vocabulary  to name pets. We will be focussing upon the ‘c’ sound in Spanish.

Homework will be to learn ‘Hola’ song which will revise greetings.  

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue looking at adjectives and word order.
Homework: to revise the vocabulary for animals and colours.

Year 3 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will go back to the Pet Shop and we will count different animals.  We  will count in  French playing  `Snakes and ladders`.

This week`s homework will be practising the French version of Old Mc Donald.  Your child can use the lyrics handed out in class or sing along with the clip on the BBC website.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben sich die Schüler näher kennen gelernt, indem sie geübt haben, detaillierte Fragen zu beantworten, schriftlich wie mündlich. Zu Hause sollten die Kinder nun eine kreative Ich-Karte gestalten und dabei den Fragen auf der Kopiervorlage folgen. Zusätzlich können sie natürlich die Karte mit einem Foto und Aufklebern verzieren.

La semana que viene escribiremos sobre nuestra casa, de modo que como deberes, tienen que acabar las breves descripciones de cada habitación de su casa con el vocabulario correspondiente (habitaciones, muebles y objetos).
