Week Beginning 27 March 2017

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country!  We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.

MESSAGES

  • Please be aware that the ECA/ BISCAP/Swimming programmes have now finished.  The Term 3 programme will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Thursday 16 June.
  • We will be celebrating International Week through song! Please join us for International singing in the primary school playground at 8.25am on Wednesday  29 March.
  • Our annual International Week Parade will be  on Friday 31 March.  The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice,  face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there.
  •  Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday.  If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up afamily account.

LITERACY & THEMED LEARNING

In Literacy this week, we will be exploring the BIG QUESTION, “What does ‘International’mean?” The children will start off thinking of different ways they coud explain the key vocabulary: national, international, values, customs. They will then be challenged to work as a team to explore  an area of national identity for each of the countries they represent. They might choose to compare and contrast.

As a team they will have to research this area, collect their ideas and be ready to present it to the class at the end of the week.They will also need to decide how to present the information.

MATHS

In Maths, the children will be working on collecting and presenting information.They will work in particular on interpreting and presenting data using bar charts.

In Computer Programming the children will finish the term by coding, working on the skills:

DUTCH

Kunst met een grote K

We vervolgen het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. We leggen dit thema de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Grote Kunst voor Kleine Kenners’,  ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

De leerlingen van Y3 en 4 starten met het maken van een Muurseum. De leerlingen van Y5 en 6 zullen onderzoek doen naar kunstenaars uit de Lage Landen. Ze kiezen een kunstwerk waarop ze een fantasieverhaal baseren.

Maandag t/m woensdag is juf Chris afwezig i.v.m. een conferentie. De leerlingen zullen voornamelijk zelfstandig werken aan vooraf bekende taken.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week the children will be writing replies to their pen-friends in Vietnam!  They will be using their knowledge of what they have learned to contruct a summary of their likes/dislikes and other general information.
Homework this week is to research Semana Santa and tell the rest of the class an interesting fact about this!

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue to learn about food in Spanish, and revise the use of the verb tengo.

Homework: Children will practice the song Madre Tierra.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will continue talking about ‘les crêpes’, preparing pancake mix and reading the recipe.  We will end our topic  ‘Tour de France ‘  with a pancake party, asking for toppings in French.  Bon Appétit!

This week’s homework will be sorting the different events of the story of ‘La Grande  Crêpe’.

La semaine prochaine, nous travaillerons encore sur les verbes irréguliers et nous apprendrons la règle du M devant M, B et P. Pour les devoirs, il faut faire la feuille d’exercices de conjugaison donnée en classe.

Wir konzentrierten uns auf die Nachdenkwoerter mit b/p, d/t und g/k. In kleinen Gruppen arbeiteten die Kinder zusammen und wir veanstalteten ein Wettbewerb im Anschluss.

Die Kinder haben ein Arbeitsblatt zum gleichen Thema bekommen, um die Rechtschreibung nochmal zu ueben.

La semana que viene vamos a aprender a escribir cartas personales. Como deberes, deben leer unas páginas del libro de su elección y resumir su contenido.
