Week Beginning 31 October 2016

Please note there will be NO ECAs on Tuesday or Thursday due to the PTCs.  Children need to be collected at 3:30 or go home on the bus as usual.  BISS Lions swimming and BISCAP will continue as normal.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a raincoat for wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • We look forward to meeting with you at the Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday 1st and Thursday 3rd November.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we are creating our own versions of the famous myth Theseus and the Minotaur. This will focus on the children applying skills they have been taught last week on  adverbs, the past tense, and creating action and suspense through sounds and dialogue. We look forward to some imaginative and engaging pieces of writing!

MATHS

In Maths this week, the children will be learning to measure, compare, add and subtract lengths. They will learn to measure starting at 0 in both centimetres for smaller objects and metres for longer objects.

THEMED LEARNING

This week, the children will be continuing our science topic on rocks. This will cover making igneous rocks, investigating the properties of rocks, discovering the rock cycle and finally concluding with a Kahoot quiz to see how their knowledge and understanding has developed over the course of this science focus.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will continue learning the foundations of computer programming. They will be using the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

DUTCH

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

Vroeger was alles ...

We werken aan een echte mindmap (volgens de technieken van Ed van Uden, gecertificeerd mindmaptrainer) over vroeger en familie. Ook leren we verschillende spreekwoorden, gezegdes en uitdrukkingen die met familie te maken hebben: de appel valt niet ver van de boom, een aardje naar je vaartje hebben, je eigen vlees en bloed, het zit in de familie... Vraag aan het einde van de week zeker uw zoon/dochter ernaar of gebruik de beeldspraak zelf. Op deze manier zal het beter beklijven.

Graag ontvangen we van alle leerlingen familiefoto’s: papa, mama, broers en zussen, tante en ooms, neven en nichten en opa’s en oma’s. We maken een grote SDS-stamboom.

Year 3  Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week we will continue to investigate ways in which we can create simple sentences using ‘Soy’ and will be able to ask where something is.  We will revise ‘days on the week’ and will begin to investigate colours so that we can create more complex sentences.

Homework will be to learn ‘Fray Santiago’ by heart.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will learn about the days of the week, and the soft c sound.
Homework: To practise adding and subtracting using numbers to 20.

Year 3 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will go on a new adventure with the `Barbapapa` family.   We will talk about their names, their colours and their likes and dislikes.  The children will select their favourite  Barbapapa  or design their own, inventing a name for it and writing a short profile in French.

This  week`s homework will looking up the colours of the Barbapapa family members on their official website.

Cette semaine nous allons travailler sur la description des personnes et travailler sur la comprehension écrite. Nous allons aussi continuer a travailler sur le verbe.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir die Hauptthemen des ersten Units „In der Schule“ wiederholt und die Kinder haben anschliessend ihre Kenntnisse getestet. Da alle so fleissig waren, gibt es diese Woche keine Hausaufgaben!

Esta semana vamos a afianzar el presente de indicativo de los verbos irregulares. Además, también vamos a trabajar la comprensión escrita.

Como deberes, tienen que escribir diez frases en el presente, verbos regulares e irregulares.
