MESSAGES

  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottles to avoid items getting lost in school.
  • Year 3 will be basing our work around ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl.  It would be fantastic if you could support the children out of school by helping them to read the book and/or watch the film to get them all ready for learning in class.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we will begin our unit on instructions. The children will look at sets of instructions and recognise when they are used in day to day life. Following this they will identify the features of instructions by studying a text in more detail. They will go on to giving and following instructions, before writing a set of instructions for a practical activity they have carried out in the classroom.

MATHS

This week we will be covering number systems. This will start by recognizing the number system that we use as a base 10 system. They will then go on to look at Roman numerals, converting from and to regular numbers and adding and subtracting them. Following this, the children will learn to read and understand the Aztec pictoral number system and solve problems using them.

THEMED LEARNING

“Chocolate”

The children will be focusing on history over the next few weeks. They will be researching the history of chocolate using their ICT skills and answering the big question: “Who was Hernan Cortes?” The children will go on to understand the impact that the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors had on the Aztec civilization.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

In Digital Literacy we will continue to look at keeping safe on the Internet and carrying out safe searching for information. We will focus on looking at how to search effectively for information, choose the best information to meet their research needs, and how to record it. We will be using Microsoft Publisher to present research on chocolate and the Aztecs.

Kunst met een grote K
De Stip

Deze week lezen we het prentenboek De Stip van Peter H. Reynolds en leggen we de link naar poëzie. Als een simpele stip een kunstwerk kan zijn, hoe maak je dan van een bordje bij de groenteboer met ‘Sla 12 cent’ een gedicht. En hoe combineer je beeld met poëzie, zodat het elkaar versterkt.

Als alles volgens planning gaat krijgen we maandag 8 mei bezoek van kunstenaar Peter Riezebos. Op dinsdag 16 mei bezoeken alle leerlingen van KS2 zijn tentoonstelling in het Duolun museum.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week, the children will continue to learn more vocabulary associated with the Food Topic, asking and answering questions related their preferences or choices. They will role play buying & selling food, incorporating their knowledge of numbers and colours too in order to add description & pricing.
Homework this week is to revise vocabulary on Linguascope in preparation for our second Kahoot quiz!

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will do some calendar work, revising numbers, days and months, and we will also learn about the festival of San Fermin.

Homework: To time themselves on Rockalingua vocabulary games. 

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will prepare ourselves for a birthday celebration.  We will learn how to say happy birthday in French and will sing the song `Joyeux Anniversaire`.  We will make a birthday calendar in class, learning the names of the months in French.

This week`s homework will be singing the numbers up to 20 with Alain Le Lait.

La semaine prochaine, nous travaillerons sur les pluriels des noms en au/eau, ou et eu. Pour les devoirs, on doit faire l’exercice sur l’imparfait et le passé composé donné en classe.

Wir lernten, einem Comic Informationen zu entnehmen, sie zuerst vorauszusagen, dann zu überlegen wer was sagen, fragen und fühlen kann. Zu Hause sollen die Kinder ihren eigenen Comic erstellen „Gestern war ein komischer Tag“, in dem sie Fragen und Aussagen in die Sprechblasen schreiben, aber auch kommentieren, was die Personen machen und fühlen. Ein Beispiel dafür ist im Booklet S.45-46

Year  3/ 4 Native Spanish - Ms Garcia

Im Deutschunterricht unterhielten wir uns zuerst, wer was gerne in der Freizeit macht und spielten ein Bingo-Spiel mit den Ideen der Freizeitbeschäftigung. Dann lasen wir den Text „Dino trifft T-Rex“. Zu Hause sollen die Kinder die Geschichte weiterschreiben. Was passiert mit Tina, wenn sie Tino im Park trifft? Wird sie weglaufen, mit ihm sprechen oder was anderes machen? Werden sie miteinander sprechen?
