MESSAGES

  • Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everyone!
  • Thursday 26 January will be the annual ‘Wear Red Day’ for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There will also be a Dragon dance at approximately 8:30am (once buses have arrived).  Parents are welcome to watch.
  • On Tuesday Year 5 will be having their entry point for our exciting new topic, The Silk Road. This event will allow children to experience some of the emotions and feelings that travellers experienced whilst travelling along the Silk Road.  Keep an eye out for our blog post this week with photogrpahs of this exciting experience.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy, we will  continue to look at non-chronological reports. Beginning with headings and structure, the children will then think about the different aspects of weather which they have investigated so far. They will use this to then plan and subsequently write a report about weather. The children will use a range of information to help them plan, including books, TV reports and websites.

MATHS

Next week in Maths the students will consolidate and develop their understanding of addition and subtraction. Once confident using the column method, they’ll have opportunities to explore other methods, and look at how efficient each method is for particular types of questions. They will also learn to add and subtract with money up to, and over £1. Towards the end of the week the students will apply their newly taught knowledge to one and two step word problems.

THEMED LEARNING

This week we will be data analysts! We collected data each day last week, recording the outside air temperature and pollution as well as recording what it looked and felt like! This week our job is to look through all of the data collected and try to make sense of it! To do this we will be making tables, bar graphs and line graphs and then finally drawing our own conclusions about the weather over the week.

DUTCH

Blijspel

De komende weken werken de leerlingen aan het thema ‘Blijspel’. We verdiepen ons deze week in de wondere wereld van ridders, kasteelheren en Karel de Grote. We analyseren de legende over Joris en de Draak (Y3 en 4) en lezen Middeleeuwse verhalen. Ook leren we over emoties en hoe een toneelstuk of film je kan ‘raken’, vervelen, vermaken, etc.

We bereiden ons tevens voor op de Cito-toets die vanaf 13 februari zal worden afgenomen. We toetsen de onderdelen technisch en begrijpend lezen, woordenschat en spelling. Deze week zullen we veel spellingcategorieën herhalen.

MFL

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will revise classroom instructions and animals we learned about last term.  We will also learn about un and una, el and la.
Homework: To complete and edit their paragraph on their Christmas holidays.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Watson

Next week the students will be learning the months of the year through games and songs. They will learn the about the similarities of the month names in Spanish and English and that capital letters are not used for the Spanish months of the year. For homework students will complete a word-search foods they have been learning.

Year  3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood

Next week we shall be reviewing parts of the body and colours. The children will learn extend their vocabulary with new phrases and constructions, linking simple sentences. We shall learn how to use a French/English dictionary. Songs and poems will be used to increase fluency.
Homework: to check you know the meanings of all the animal names in the poem.

Die Kinder tauschten über ihre Erlebnisse und Abenteuer in den Winterferien und übten, eine 4-Satz Geschichte darüber zu schreiben. Sie haben neue Bücher in der Bibliothek ausgeliehen und sollen weiterhin zu Hause lesen und im Lesetigerheft schreiben oder malen. Wir sind fast am Ende unseres Themas „Auf der Straβe“ und haben nun folgende Aspekte im Fokus: Groβschreibung am Satzanfang, Wörter mit  sp-, st und sch. Vor Chinese New Year wird es einen Test geben. Zu Hause sollen die Kinder also die KV 16 aus dem Booklet machen: „Sätze bilden und in der richtigen Groβ- und Kleinschreibung ins Heft schreiben.“

La semana próxima seguiremos trabajando la estructura de la oración en el texto de la unidad. También ampliaremos vocabulario en relación al mundo animal. Para deberes, deben escribir sobre su animal favorito y sus características y costumbres.
