LITERACY

Next week, we will turn our attention to letter writing. We will begin by looking at the different reasons and purposes for writing letters, before discussing various examples of these. At the centre of this will be looking into the grammar and structures which are specific to letters. Following this, we will link our learning to the ‘Explorers’ topic by reading, creating and writing letters from Sir Edmund Hillary all about his expedition up Mount Everest.

MATHS

This week we will be looking at area and perimeter. The children will be thinking about how to calculate the area and perimeter of more complex shapes using the knowledge they have. They will get the opportunity to measure larger spaces in real-life and use their measurements to calculate the perimeter and area and record using the iPads.

THEMED LEARNING

Over the next two weeks the children will develop their understanding of the Explorers and Adventurers topic through Art and Digital Literacy.  In Digital Literacy the children will be creating their own stop motion animations depicting the journey of an explorer / adventurer.  They will learn how stop motion animations string a series of images together to show movement. After experimenting with a range of materials they will storyboard their ideas in groups of two, and then begin making their animations.  In Art the children will learn about the role Artists played in expeditions before photography was available.  They will practise sketching in detail, and missing colours to make the most life like shades possible.  Finally they will have the chance to make design objects from an imaginary land they have ‘discovered’.

An exciting new learning opportunity begins with teaching the children how to code using the App ‘Hopskotch’. This will continue throughout the term leading children to design and create their own games.

Kunst met een grote K

De leerlingen van Year 3 en Year 4 bouwen deze week aan een woordbank met woorden die te maken hebben met het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. Ook kiezen ze een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen waarover ze een fantasieverhaal schrijven in de stijl van ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’. De verhalen krijgen zeker een plekje in ons Muurseum.

De leerlingen van Year 5 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. Ook zij starten met het schrijven van een fantasieverhaal gebaseerd op een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen.

Zu Hause sollen die Kinder das Arbeitsblatt „Monate“ machen, und zwar auf der Hinterseite 10 Sätze schreiben, wann sie was machen.
