Week Beginning 23 January 2017

Thursday 26 January will be the annual ‘Wear Red Day’ for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There will also be a Dragon dance at approximately 8:30am (once buses have arrived).  Parents are welcome to watch.

MESSAGES

  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
  • Lost Property -Our lost property cupboard is full to over flowing.  Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday items from the cupboard will be laid out on tables in the front playground.  Please encourage your child to see if they recognise any clothes or objects; if you can please come yourself to check claim items.  We will be re-cycling anything unclaimed over Chinese New Year.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, the children will rounding off their work on Non-Chronological Reports by writing a report about volcanoes, thus linking their Themed Learning knowledge to Literacy. The students will use a variety of sources to glean their information from, including news video reports of eruptions and newspaper articles, as well as research from their guided reading sessions. They will then have to plan their report and make editorial decisions over how to present their information prior to writing up.

MATHS

Multiplication is our topic next week in Maths and the children will start the week by consolidating their ability to answer 2 and 3 digit numbers multiplied by a 1 digit number – using the formal written method. The class will then look at a range of ways to solve basic algebra problems including concrete objects and acting out the problems, as well as sketching the information in the question.

THEMED LEARNING

This week we will be making models of volcanoes. We will be using modroc and wire mesh to form the base of our volcanoes and working in groups, we will paint and add texture to the models. We will explore the use of paper maiche to add details and paint to create rough, colour effects. After the model has been assembled, we will turn it in to a real volcano by using our Science knowledge from previous weeks to create an explosion in the middle!

In Computing we will be coding and learn how to change an object's direction and heading to create a sailing game.

DUTCH

Deze week werken we verder aan onze analyse van Karel en Elegast (Y5 en 6) en starten we met Reynaert de Vos (Y3 en 4). We richten ons met name op de verschillende personages en de rollen die zij spelen. Ook markeren we de moeilijke woorden in de verhalen en voegen die toe aan onze Taboe! pot. De overige Taboe! woorden komen uit het thema Plankenkoorts van Staal. Na de vakantie starten we met het schrijven van een  script voor onze grote Showcase op woensdag 1 maart. Allemaal een hele fijne vakantie gewenst!

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue to revise colours and animals, putting them in sentences, and learn how to use the negative in Spanish.

Homework: On Linguascope, try and beat the timer on the colours and animal games.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Watson

The students will return to the topic of food to revise preferences and explain why they like certain food. This will lead into a unit about The Hungry Caterpillar and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
For homework, students are to revise months, numbers, days of the week and foods.

Year  3/ 4 French - Miss Wood

This week we shall be looking at  words to describe size and facial features, reviewing the colours and checking we understand how plural nouns are formed. The children will learn to make adjectives agree with nouns, creating and describing monsters.
Homework: to learn and review the parts of the body.

La semaine prochaine, Paul travaillera sur le présent des verbes en ER et IR ainsi que les verbes AVOIR et ETRE. Pour ce weekend, il doit faire la compréhension de texte sur la bicyclette.

La semana que viene, trabajaremos las palabras con ga, gue, gui, go, gu,  y hablaremos de la comida en España. Como deberes, tienen que completar las dos páginas siguientes del cuaderno de vocabulario.
