Welcome back to Term 3 - we are looking forward to an exciting term.
- Thank you so much to all families for supporting us last term with all of our activities. The children benefited greatly from all of your support.
- Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
- Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday. If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up afamily account.
- TERM 3 ECA/BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming: Programmes will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Friday 16June 2017. Confirmation letters will be sent out during the first week back.
In Literacy the children will spend the next 2 weeks focusing on Poetry starting with a rap by Michael Rosen. First of all the children will experience reading and performing a selection of poems both individually as well as part of a group. During this work they will explore intonation, tone and volume and challenge themselves to learn a selection of poems by heart. The children will also build on the rhyming work as they edit and perform their own rap.

This week the children will be reviewing and extending their skills with data. They will consider how to handle larger amounts of data, grouping results and presenting in frequency tables. They will discuss when it is appropriate to use a tally for collecting data. The children will learn that graphical information needs to be presented accurately.

This term the children will become space explorers. During this topic, children will learn about different planets and how galaxies are formed. In Humanties we will look at the history of the space race and at propaganda. Were the technologies on either side of the Iron Curtain very different? In Science we will investigate how to make rockets fly and find out what materials are needed to make a spacesuit. We will also learn about the relationship between the Sun and Earth and will explore how the solar system works. The children will learn that the planets orbit the Sun and the Moon orbits the Earth. We will make Sun dials and use them to measure time. The children will also take part in some astronaut training whilst dscussing the challenges and difficulties associated with space travel.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY
We are starting off the term with a look at safer searching on the Internet. Children will explore the idea of how search engines rank their searches and we will discuss the advantages and disadvantage to this. We will also learn about what to do if we come across inappropriate material while searching, as well as learning about which search engines are safer for us to use.

This week we will be focusing on our targets for term 3. The children will reflect what they have achieved so far in Year 5 and will look ahead to their targets for Term 3. This will be the children’s last term in Year 5 and we will be discussing what they would like to achieve before the end of the term.

Year 5 Spanish - Ms Watson
We are employing prepositions to describe where items in a house can be found. Students will be able to describe the room and location in the room to find a range of items and ask where items are. There will not be any homework this week.
Year 5/6 Spanish - Ms Caldwell
Next week the children will be revising the key vocabulary associated with items in their pencil case, classroom and school subjects. They will create a video presentation with the view of sending this to their penpals from Vietnam.

The first week back after the holiday we will be talking about our hobbies, and giving our opinions on different activities.
Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger
After the Spring Break holidays we will start our new topic `Bonnes vacances!`. We will travel around the world, learning transport related vocabulary and visiting the different countries where our class mates are from. We will make a special trip to Vietnam by reading the letters we`ve received from our pen pals in Ho Chi Minh City and we will visit another exchange class in Doha, Qatar. We have friends all over the world!
There will be no homework due to the holiday next week. Bonnes vacances!

Kunst met een grote K
We vervolgen het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. We leggen dit thema de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren van kunst en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.
Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Grote Kunst voor Kleine Kenners’, ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.
De leerlingen van Y3 en 4 starten met het maken van een Muurseum. De leerlingen van Y5 en 6 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. We kijken deze week naar diverse werken van door de leerlingen geselecteerde kunstenaars. Wat is mooi en wat is lelijk? Het onderbouwen van de mening staat daarbij centraal.
