MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  

LITERACY

In our final week of, Stories from Other Cultures, the children will use a story from Sweden as their stimulus for writing. As well as applying their story telling skills, the children will pay particular attention to the description of the characters and the setting. Children will also be asked to explain their understanding of the story and to consider what they think the writer is inferring.

MATHS

This week we shall be working with division, recapping the connections between mutliplication and division. The children will consider how best to express a remainder and if the answer needs to be rounded up or down. They will have opportunities to practice word problems, involving both multiplication and division and will be assisted with strategies to determine which operation to choose. Some children will practice and refine formal short division methods.

THEMED LEARNING

‘Building a Village’

Students will continue to develop their art skills as they construct complex 3D models using a range of techniques to form a realistic geographic landscape. As well as completing this on-going project the children will also compare different villages from across the globe. They will watch short video clips about different villages and make a news and weather report about the conditions in their chosen village. In small groups the children will produce a TV news video showing how life varies in two different villages.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week pupils will begin their unit of coding lessons. The children will start to write basic computer codes to make an on-screen avatar move in different directions. The children will also attempt to get their avatar to change speed as it moves across a route.

PSHCE

A lot of the work done in Themed Learning will link to our goals in PSHCE this week. Whilst working in teams and in small groups the children will be encouraged to resolve differences by looking at alternatives, make decisions and explain their choices.They will develop these skills whilst working on their village models and creating their news reports.

After the October Holiday we will look outside the window and talk about the weather.  We will look at a French weather forecast and practice weather related vocabulary, preparing ourselves to present our own French weather forecast the coming weeks!

After the holidays, we will be continuing to look at the verb, avoir. We will revise j’ai and learn tu as, il a, elle a and nous avons (parts of avoir) and use it with the negative. We will also enjoy a traditional story and revise how to pronounce the ‘ai’ phoneme correctly.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir uns mit den Nomen beschäftigt, die Grundregeln (Grossschreibung) wiederholt und geübt sowie untersucht, wie man die Nomen aus den Adjektiven machen kann. Wir werden demnächst die Mehrzahl der Nomen behandeln und zu Hause können die Kinder in den Ferien die Aufgaben zum Wimmelbild machen, die sie im Heft haben.

La semana de después de las vacaciones consolidaremos el vocabulario y prepararemos una presentación sobre nuestra escuela. No hay deberes para las vacaciones.

DUTCH

Reisbureau SDS: Reisverslag en Reisverhaal

Na het doen van onderzoek, het schrijven van de flyer en het reisprogramma en het verkopen van de reis op de reisbeurs verdiepen we ons de laatste twee weken van het thema Reisbureau SDS in de tekstgenres reisverslag en reisverhaal. We kijken naar de typische kenmerken van de teksten, naar overeenkomsten en verschillen en schrijven zelf een reisverhaal op basis van reisverslagen van de vakantie.

Optioneel huiswerk: de leerlingen schrijven per dag een kort verslagje (1 – 3 zinnen) over de vakantie. We gebruiken dit in de klas.

Bij spelling herhalen we deze week de volgende categorieën van Staal:

Groep 4: lange en korte klanken, luchtwoord, zingwoord, plankwoord

Groep 5: open en gesloten lettergrepen (vervolg introductie)

Groep 6: open en gesloten lettergrepen (verdieping), tropisch-woord, politie-woord

Groep 7: langermaakwoord (-b, -d), sterke werkwoorden in de verleden tijd, open en gesloten lettergrepen
