Week Beginning 12 September 2016

Thursday 15 and Friday 16 are school holidays and we return on Monday 19 September.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • ECA and BISCAP confirmation letters have been sent. Both programmes will begin on Monday 12 September.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week the children will finish writing their non-chronological reports on urban and rural settlements.  The focus  for these reports are writing cohesive paragraphs and using subject-specific vocabulary. The children  will be learning how to up-level and edit their written work effectively and will publish it.

MATHS

This week we shall be focussing on rounding and estimating. We shall continue our work using large numbers, which helps the children to become confident with number manipulation. Exploring estimations, and how they can help us to understand mathematical situations, will also be a particular focus, as the children experience and work with mathematical problems related to real life situations. Estimations will be verified through calculating, which offers  m ore opportunities for the children to practise their understanding of all four operations.

THEMED LEARNING

This week, the children will continue to experience using maps in a variety of ways. They will compare maps of different settlements and describe how they are different. The children will also explore how different climates can affect land use. The children will continue to look at the features of maps and aplly what they have learned by creating a detailed map of their own.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will be using their searching skills to look for specific information about settlements. This will link into our Literacy work. The children will learn how to ask specific questions in order to improve their search results.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

Year 5  Spanish -  Ms Watson

This week the students will be learning numbers to 31 and the months of the year. We will also learn how to sing happy birthday in Spanish.
Homework is to revise the greetings from the previous lessons so that we can keep building on their conversation skills and 5 minutes a day on Duolingo.

Year 5 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will practice the use of the verb `avoir .  The children will play the game `Qui est-ce`(who is it? ), making descriptions of people using the verb avoir. 

This week`s homework will be practising class instructions by playing `Jacques a dit…`, the French version of `Simon Says`.

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae

Next week, students will review classroom instructions and giving opinions. They will also learn how to pronounce the ‘j’ phoneme correctly.
Homework: find two pictures of things that they really like or dislike and write down their opinion. 

Year 5/6 Native French – M. Valente

La semaine prochaine, les élèves continueront de pratiquer l’utilisation des verbes réguliers et irréguliers au présent de l’indicatif en contexte. Les élèves ont parfois des difficultés à reconnaitre/remplacer les groupes nominaux par les  pronoms personnels (mon frère et moi = nous, donc la terminaison est ONS) donc nous avons aussi travailler sur ce point-là.
Comme devoirs, les élèves doivent compléter les 2 feuilles données en classe (sur les pronoms personnels) et apprendre par cœur les règles et exceptions pour la formation des verbes ELER et ETER.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir eine Geschichte gelesen und ueberlegt, wie die Geschihcte weitergehen koennte. Die Ideen konnten die Schüler muendlich wie schriftlich zusammenfassen und der Klasse präsentieren.
Zu Hause sehen sich die Kinder den Text „Sophie vergisst eigentlich nichts“ auf S. 8 an und  machen die Aufgaben wie auf den Extrablättern angegeben, die die Schüler in ihren Plastikmappen haben.

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De medewerkers van KS2 van Reisbureau SDS blijken zeer ervaren reizigers die fantastisch kunnen putten uit eigen ervaringen bij het oriënteren, plannen en beschrijven van hun reis voor de reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. . De leerlingen werken deze week aan hun reisprogramma: een beschrijving van dag-tot-dag incl. details over slaapplekken, kosten, vluchten, etc.
