Week Beginning 19 September 2016

School photographs will be taken from Wednesday 21st to Friday 23rd September. Please make sure your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

MESSAGES

  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  

LITERACY

In Literacy this week Year 5 will be reading stories from different cultures. This will link into our themed learning topic as we discuss village life and different cultures from around the world. The children will learn about  the structure and features  of the texts as well as focusing on character descriptions. The challenge will be to apply what they have learned in their own writing.

MATHS

This week the children will be learning to multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. They will also convert between different units of measure. In our mental maths sessions we will improve mental recall in addition and subtraction and will continue to practice mental recall of multiplication facts up to 12x 12.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning we will begin our Art unit for themed learning. In groups the children will use their knowledge of different types of villages from around the world. They will reflect on last week’s work, thinking about the different types of villages studied and use these ideas to create a plan for their own model village. We will begin theconstruction of our own miniature settlements. Students will be learning new art skills as they construct complex 3D models using a range of techniques to form a realistic geographic landscape. This will be a multi-step process and require excellent teamwork skills.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This will be our first week with iPads at school so we will teach a range of lessons on their safe and responsible use, particularly focusing on E Safety.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will read  and act out the story `Les vêtements neufs de l`Empereur` (The Emperor`s new clothes).  We will look for descriptive adjectives in the story and will discover that adjectives can take different forms depending on the noun they agree with.

La semaine prochaine, nous préparerons et ferons une dictée sur le présent utilisé en contexte. Nous ferons aussi de la lecture. Cette semaine, il n’y a pas de devoirs spécifiques (c’est la règle de l’école pendant les vacances) même si les enfants peuvent toujours faire un peu de Projet Voltaire.

Die Kinder haben diese Woche die Adjektive zum Thema „Gefühle“ wiederholt und ihren Wortschatz erweitert. Anschlieβend haben wir einen Text gelesen und versucht, die Gefühle der Kinder zu verstehen und zu benennen.
Gefühle zu umschreiben und zu benennen, neue Adjektive zu lernen und uns in die Personen hineinzuversetzen, das wird unser Fokus nächste Woche sein.
Zu Hause können die Kinder das Lesen und Nacherzählen üben (Text „Wahlkampf der Tiere“). Die genauen Angaben zur Hausaufgabe haben die Kinder in ihren Heften.

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De medewerkers van KS2 van Reisbureau SDS blijken zeer ervaren reizigers die fantastisch kunnen putten uit eigen ervaringen bij het oriënteren, plannen en beschrijven van hun reis voor de reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. . De leerlingen werken deze week verder aan hun reisprogramma: een beschrijving van dag-tot-dag incl. details over slaapplekken, kosten, vluchten, etc.

Deze week ronden we alles af, zodat we ons kunnen richten op de kraam voor de reisbeurs. Leerlingen mogen de kraam naar eigen inzicht indelen. Denk daarbij niet alleen aan visueel materiaal, maar vooral ook aan de andere zintuigen (lekkere hapjes, muziek uit het land...). Wellicht kunnen de ouders hier een handje bij helpen.
