Week Beginning 26 September 2016

The children are very excited about making their village models. In order to help construct the villages please could you send in any old magazines and newspapers that you have at home. These will be very helpful for making the bases of our models.

MESSAGES

  • Football Fun Day at SAS Puxi – Friday  30  September 09.00 – 12.30 Parents are most welcome to come along to SAS and spectate. The children will need to come to school in their P.E. kit; if they have shin pads these would be useful but nobody is allowed to wear football boots with studs.
  • We are running the HSK examination on Saturday 12th November 2016. Registration is open to students, parents and friends who have an interest in taking this test. For more information, please kindly refer to the letter.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks.You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  

LITERACY

Continuing with a focus on, Stories from Other Cultures, Year 5 will move from China to a story that originates from the Czech Republic. The children will develop their own story telling skills throughout the week, which includes a piece of performance work to their parents at home. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. In their writing there will also be a focus on using direct speech and how to punctuate it correctly.

MATHS

This week, the children will be focusing on improving their mutliplcation skills. They will review quick recall of basic multiplication facts, relate them to problem solving in context and work on  puzzles and activities to assist with rapid recall. Mental skills will focus on using known facts to solve more complex problems and ease and with speed.The children will be given time to practice formal column multiplication methods, leading, when ready, to long multiplication with larger numbers.

THEMED LEARNING

‘Building a Village’

During this week, the children will be continuing to construct their village models. They will be using the plans that they drew in class to help them upscale their models. The children will be adding the physical features such as land, mountains, water and resources. Later in the unit the children will add the human features. The children will work in teams and will be focusing on how to work collaborately by sharing ideas, sharing responsibilities and listening to the suggestions of others.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week we will continue to discuss how to use iPads at school, focusing on safe and responsible use. The children will use applications to record a variety of rules and tips on how to use an iPad sensibly.

PSHCE

This week we will discuss how to work well in a group during a variety of collaborative activities. The children will discuss what  good group work looks like, how it should sound and how we feel when we work together.  We will discuss the importance of listening to all ideas, offering suggestions and compromising when deciding on a final solution to a problem.

Next week the students will continue to learn about their classrooms, subjects and teachers. They will be able to describe and discuss these with each other in Spanish.
Homework this week is to revise the vocabulary for items in a classroom and continue with Duolingo.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will act out the story of the `Emperor`s clothes` using the adjectives we`ve learnt in class to describe the different outfits of the Emperor.

For this week`s   homework  the children have to take a selfie with their school Ipad .   Add  3 sentences about yourself using the verb avoir.

Year 5/6 Native French – M. Valente

La semaine prochaine, les élèves travailleront sur les verbes irréguliers du présent de l’indicatif et continueront le Projet Voltaire. Pour les devoirs, il faut compléter les feuilles d’exercices données en classe sur les verbes réguliers utilisés en contexte.

Year 5/6 Native German – Ms. Brannasch

Im Fokus standen diese Woche die Adjektive zur Gefühls- und Emotionenbeschreibung sowie die Erweiterung des Wortschatzes. Die Schüler haben geübt, die Emotionen aus der Situation herauszulesen, sich in die erzählte Figur hineizuverstzen und ihre Gefühle genauer zu beschreiben.
Zu Hause sollten sie es nochmal üben und zwar mit dem Text „Wie fühlen sich Freddy und Pauline?“ im Booklet.

La semana que viene escribiremos sobre nuestra casa, de modo que como deberes, tienen que acabar las breves descripciones de cada habitación de su casa con el vocabulario correspondiente (habitaciones, muebles y objetos).

DUTCH

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De verschillende reisbureaus die op de Reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. aanwezig zullen zijn, zijn in de afrondende fase van hun werk. Maandag, dinsdag en woensdag werken de leerlingen aan de inrichting van hun kraam. Hulp van ouders (thuis en op school) is hier zeker bij gewenst!

Bij spelling behandelen we deze week de volgende categorieën:

Groep 4: lange en korte klanken, luchtwoord, zingwoord, plankwoord

Groep 5: open en gesloten lettergrepen (introductie)

Groep 6: open en gesloten lettergrepen (verdieping), tropisch-woord, politie-woord

Groep 7: langermaakwoord (-b, -d), sterke werkwoorden in de verleden tijd
