Week Beginning 13 February 2017

MESSAGES

  • Please note that there will be no ECAs on Tuesday 21 or Thursday 23 February due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  BISCAP and Swimming will not be affected.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be continuing a series of lessons centred on persuasion. The children will be learning how to make the most effective language choices when trying to convinse an audience of their view point. This will be based around our water topic, with the children able to choose their topic for persuasion. We will be building a set of skills to enable the children to make a verbal presentation as persuasive and fluent as possible.

MATHS

This week in maths we will be continuing to explore decimals, fractions and percentages. This will involve first looking at multiplication and division of fractions. We will then look at how decimals, fractions and percentages are integrated and how to make quick conversions between them. The students will apply their knowledge of fractions from earlier in the year and consolidate this into problem solving abilities.

THEMED LEARNING

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targtes for the term ahead. We will also welcome some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can be helpful in settling them into their new school.

Next week we will be starting a new project on francophone countries and will be researching key information on the countries.
For homework this weekend, students must choose a moral and create their own fable in French to explain this moral. They can use Toontastic or draw the cartoon.

Year 5/6  Spanish -  Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue to learn about the verb tener in all it’s different forms, and using the negative.

Homework this week is to review vocabulary for sports and sports clothes.

Year 5/6  Spanish -  Ms Caldwell

Next week we will continue to construct more complex sentences using learned vocabulary and will learn vocabulary for classroom items.  We will revise adjectives and learn new ones in order to describe these items and voice our opinions.

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae  

In French next week,  we will be continuing with learning our numbers up to 60. We will be using our Maths brains to add/ subtract/ multiple and divide different calculations and then say the calculations in French to a partner.  We will also learn words for school subjects and learn about French Primary school timetables.
Homework this week is to log on to ‘’Bonjour les amis!’website. Complete the activities and tasks in section 2- Lucie dans sa nouvelle école, this will help you in lessons next week.

Year 5/6 Native French – M. Valente

La semaine prochaine, nous continuerons notre travail sur la rédaction en utilisant les temps du passé. Pour la mardi prochain, il faut faire l’exercice de repérage de temps (passé simple et imparfait) donnée en classe.

Unser neues Thema ist „Die Wikinger“. Wir werden uns über das Leben der Wikinger unterhalten und die Kinder werden lernen, treffende Adjektive zu nutzen, um die Personen möglichst genau zu beschreiben. Im Unterricht diese Woche haben die Schüler über die Wikingerzeit gelesen und zu dem Text W-Fragen gesammelt und beantwortet. Zu Hause sollten sie ihre eigenen W-Fragen formulieren, und zwar zum Text „Das Thing“ im Booklet.

Year 5/6 Native Spanish  – Ms Garcia

La semana que viene, seguiremos trabajando las reglas de acentuación e introduciremos los cuantificadores. Para deberes, deben completar una redacción sobre las instalaciones de la escuela.

DUTCH

Thema Blijspel

De afname van de Cito-toetsen is begonnen. Deze week gaan we verder met de toetsen begrijpend lezen en woordenschat.

Y3 en 4 zullen zich deze week verdiepen in hun rol in het zelfgeschreven toneelstuk van Karel en Elegast. Ze krijgen een voorbeeldscript, maar moeten die zelf verder aanpassen, uitbreiden en oefenen.

Y5 en 6 werken verder aan hun rollen in Reynaert de Vos. Ook moeten ze zich verdiepen in het aanbrengen van regieaanwijzingen in het script.

We zoeken ouders die willen helpen met het knutselen van het decor en de rekwisieten voor alle blijspelen (van Pre-Nursery t/m KS3). Stuur een mailtje naar Chris als u kunt helpen:
