MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy on our website.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be continuing our series of lessons about debate. We shall be investigating a range of moral issues and learning the key skills required to maturely discuss them and express differing opinions. The first topic we shall be investigating is the topical issue of refugee movement around the globe. As part of our wider topic where we look at the affect of conflict on children, we shall investigate the current conflict in Syria and the wider issues surrounding the fighting. We shall finish the unit of work by writing our own anser to a challenging moral dilemma.

MATHS

In Maths, we will be continuing our unit of work on fractions. This will include calculating fractions of amounts, converting decimals and percentages into fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and using fractions in real life problems. We will also look at mental strategies to speed our calculations when considering fractions of amounts. We will finish by looking at some very challenging calculations involving the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.

THEMED LEARNING

We will be continuing our World War 2 topic and building on the foundations of knowledge we have laid in the first weeks back. The children will be investigating the Blitz and discovering what life was like for children under the rain of bombs falling upon London during 1940. They will also be using a range of challenging techniques in Art to construct a multi-layered piece of printed work that depicts the destruction of war. This will be coupled with an investigative scheme of work using laptops and iPads to study how shelters were built to keep the population safe from falling bombs.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae
Next week , we will continue to look at short stories in French. We will finish our work on ‘’The Emperor’s New Clothes and continue to focus on adjective agreement and the verb avoir.
Homework this week is to use the words provided in the word cloud, to write as many sentences as possible. Can you complete all 15 sentences?

Year 6 French – Dr. Cattel/ Mme McConnon
Next week we will continue to work on the topic of pets and the students will complete their own books on the pets that they could keep and describing them.
Homework this weekend is to read the booklet on pets to a family member or friend and to decide which pets they wish to write about in their booklet. They need to find or draw pictures  and bring them to the lesson on Thursday. If they would like Ms McConnon to print them, they should email the pictures at exactly the right size to her by Wednesday on f-mcconnon@bisspuxi.com. Students can, if they like, do their booklet at home, but please leave space to describe the pets in the next lesson J

Year 6  Spanish -  Ms Caldwell
This week we will be investigating the weather, learning basic vocabulary to describe what it is like at different times. We will write a script and then use that to create a weather forecast using our iPads.

Homework this week is to revise vocabulary and our new weather words.

La semaine prochaine, les élèves continueront de travailler sur quelques-uns des homophones principaux de la langue française. Ils referont aussi le test de cette semaine sur le présent de l’indicatif (les tests sont dans leur cahier et ils le repasseront mardi).
Pour les devoirs, il faut réviser les verbes irréguliers difficiles (sur www.conjuguemos.com et en vérifiant sur www.leconjugueur.com) et faire la feuille d’ exercices sur les homophones donnée en classe.

Die Kinder haben diese Woche die Grundregeln über die Nomen wiederholt und geübt. Ebenfalls haben wir die Nomen kategorisiert (Lebewesen, Dinge, Orte usw.) und die Zusammenhänge herausgearbeitet, was nun die Nomen sind. Nächste Woche werden wir die Adjektive untersuchen, vor allem die Adjektive, die von den Nomen abgeleitet werden (Wut-wütend).
Zu Hause sollten die Kinder ihre Nomen-Kenntnisse konsolidieren und im Booklet KV9 „Nomen in der Schule“ machen.

La semana que viene vamos a trabajar las conjugaciones verbales (presente y pasado) de los verbos regulares. No hay deberes porque estamos acabando las presentaciones sobre nuestras vacaciones.

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

De leerlingen hebben hun vakantie-ervaringen verwerkt in prachtige reisverslagen met een imaginaire twist aan het einde, het reisverhaal. We maken deze verhalen af, evalueren het thema en ronden daarmee het thema Reisbureau SDS af.

Het is kinderboekenweek in Nederland en het thema van dit jaar is: ‘Voor altijd jong!’ waarin opa’s en oma’s centraal staan. In KS2 werken we daarom de komende weken rond het thema: Vroeger was alles ... We poetsen onze interviewtechnieken op ter voorbereiding van een interview met opa of oma over Skype; onderzoeken wat opa’s en oma’s vroeger deden (want hoe is het leven zonder internet en iPad?), schrijven verhalen en denken na over onze families.
