Week Beginning 23 January 2017

Thursday 26 January will be the annual ‘Wear Red Day’ for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There will also be a Dragon dance at approximately 8:30am (once buses have arrived).  Parents are welcome to watch.

MESSAGES

  • Our lost property cupboard is full to over flowing.  Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday items from the cupboard will be laid out on tables in the front playground.  Please encourage your child to see if they recognise any clothes or objects; if you can please come yourself to check claim items.  We will be re-cycling anything unclaimed over Chinese New Year.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

LITERACY

In our third week of Literacy we will be continuing a series of lessons investigating information texts and how opinions differ from facts. We will be interrogating some high quality non-fiction books to discover how important our oceans are for life on Earth. We will then be using our sentence-level work to construct sophisticated sentences using colons and semi-colons to add to our information texts from last week.

MATHS

In our third week of Maths we will be investigating volume and capacity. This will involve an initial study of how to differentiate between the two. We will use a range of resources and challenge the students with open-ended, high-ceiling problems.

We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water.

Blijspel
