Week Beginning 27 March 2017

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country!  We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please be aware that the ECA/ BISCAP/Swimming programmes have now finished.  The Term 3 programme will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Thursday 16 June.
  • We will be celebrating International Week through song! Please join us for International singing in the primary school playground at 8.25am on Wednesday  29 March.
  • Our annual International Week Parade will be  on Friday 31 March.  The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice,  face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there.
  • Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday.  If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up a family account.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week we will be finishing our fantastic unit of work on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This week we will be concluding the play, looking at how the ending relates back to the witches’ prophesies and contemplating which characters are truly to blame for the tragic finale. We will use drama to get under the characters’ skins and consider the impact of the witches’ prophesies.

MATHS

For our first week back we will be looking at negative numbers. This will involve adding and subtracting negative numbers and looking at problems using them in context, particularly with regard to termperature. We will finish the week with an investigation building number pyramids using negative numbers to reach a target.

THEMED LEARNING

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead. We have  welcomed some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can continue to be helpful in settling them into their new school.

We have finished learning new words and sentences last week. Starting from this week, students will mainly put effort on reading paragraphs without Pinyin, get the meaning of each sentences, and make similar dialogue according to sample.

Year 6 French – Dr. Cattel / Mme McConnon

We will be continuing to celebrate international week next week. Following on from the posters made on food in different countries, we will be making presentations on clothing worn in different countries.

Homework this weekend is to make a Mother’s day card in French and  present it to the child’s mum on Sunday. Students are to take a selfie of themselves with mum and the card and send to f-mcconnon@bisspuxi.com.

Next week the children will write responses to their pen-friends in the British International School in Vietnam. They will answer questions and generate more information to tell them from their knowledge so far.

Homework this week is to research Semana Santa and produce a PicCollage summarising the main facts about this festival.

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae  

Next week in French we will be revising and learning new vocabulary for items found in the

classroom. We will also be beginning to prepare a presentation about our school.

Homework this week is to complete the worksheet. Can you match any of the pictures with the correct French word? We learnt some of this vocabulary last year, but some are new, can you find out what they mean? This will help you with next week’s lessons.

La semaine prochaine, nous continuerons notre travail sur les dictées de phrases pour revisiter les différents points de grammaire vus jusqu’à présent. Pour les devoirs, il faut apprendre l’orthographe des mots invariables sur la feuille donnée en classe (il y aura un test mardi).

Wir untersuchten die Satzglieder und uebten die Satzumstellung und wie man durch Fragen die Satzglieder ermitteln kann. Zu Hause sollen die Kinder die KV 58 aus dem Booklet machen, indem sie die einzelnen Satzglieder ausschneiden und daraus Saetze bilden.

Year 5/6 Native Spanish  – Ms Garcia

La semana que viene vamos a aprender a escribir noticias y resúmenes de textos. Como deberes, deben leer otras 10 páginas de su libro y resumir su contenido.

DUTCH

We vervolgen het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. We leggen dit thema de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Grote Kunst voor Kleine Kenners’,  ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

De leerlingen van Y3 en 4 starten met het maken van een Muurseum. De leerlingen van Y5 en 6 zullen onderzoek doen naar kunstenaars uit de Lage Landen. Ze kiezen een kunstwerk waarop ze een fantasieverhaal baseren.

Maandag t/m woensdag is juf Chris afwezig i.v.m. een conferentie. De leerlingen zullen voornamelijk zelfstandig werken aan vooraf bekende taken.
