Week Beginning 31 October 2016

Please note there will be NO ECAs on Tuesday or Thursday due to the PTCs.  Children need to be collected at 3:30 or go home on the bus as usual.  BISS Lions swimming and BISCAP will continue as normal.

MESSAGES

  • We are looking forward to welcoming you to Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday 1st and Thursday 3rd November. We encourage children in Year 3-6 to take part in these meetings with their parents and class teacher. However, the decision is yours if you wish your child to attend. We ask that you do not bring younger children to school or into these meetings as they often distract parents from the important discussions with teachers. Please make arrangement for your children to be collected at 3:30pm from school and/or supervised by an adult while you are in your meetings. 

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be learning a whole range of new skills as we continue to learn how to make a documentary. This is part of our work to intergrate the use of the iPads into our lessons to further enhance the children’s understanding of Digital Literacy. Having visited the Shanghai Jewish Museum, we will intergrate the information we collected into the documentaries and begin the process of editing.

MATHS

In Maths, we will be continuing a unit of work on data handling. This will involve drawing frequency diagrams and line graphs and then interpreting the results. We shall be paying particular focus on how to analyse graphs to provide averages and identify trends. Wel will also look at how to construct our own graphs by collecting and sorting our own data.

THEMED LEARNING

We will be continuing our World War 2 topic and building on the foundations of knowledge we have laid in the first weeks back. The children will be investigating the Blitz and discovering what life was like for children under the rain of bombs falling upon London during 1940. They will also be using a range of challenging techniques in Art to construct a multi-layered piece of printed work that depicts the destruction of war. This will be coupled with an investigative scheme of work using laptops and iPads to study how shelters were built to keep the population safe from falling bombs.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

In PSHCE this term we will be beginning a mindfulness course called ‘Paws B’. This will involve the students learning a range of new strategies to help train their brains to make them more effective learners.

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae

Next week in French, we will be learning how to describe the weather and be writing and delivering our own simple weather forecast.
Homework this week is to watch ‘Le Ragga des Pingouins’ song at home and learn the actions to the song. Can you translate the first verse?

Year 6 French – Dr. Cattel/ Mme McConnon

Next week, we will be reviewing descriptions of family members  and reinforcing grammatical agreement of adjectives of description.
Homework this weekend is to complete the pets booklet. On the inside covers at the back, you can write a description of some of the pets in your booklet – colours, characteristics (intelligent, stupide etc). Please check that you have put the correct feminine / plural form of the adjective. Please bring your booklet to the lesson on Thursday.

Year 6  Spanish -  Ms Caldwell

Next week we will continue to investigate ways in which we can construct basic sentences. We will build upon our previous knowledge of animals, weather, etc and use this vocabulary to make more complex sentences, adding in some basic adjectives.
Homework this weekend is to revise the vocabulary from this week and to spend time on duolinguo.

La semaine prochaine, nous continuerons de travailler sur le futur simple et nous ferons aussi une rédaction en utilisant ce temps. Pour les devoirs, les élèves doivent s’entraîner sur www.conjuguemos.com (le futur simple, numéro 12) et apprendre par cœur les 21 verbes à radicaux irréguliers qui sont sur la feuille donnée en classe.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben die Schüler gelernt und geübt, wie man Adjektive mit den Nomen verbindet, wenn man einander beschreibt und ihren Wortschatz erweitert. Zu Hause sollten sie die Schreibregeln der Wörter mit „ä“ und „äu“ wiederholen und die Schreibweise üben.
Nächste Woche werden die Schüler die Hauptthemen des Units weiderholen und ihre Kenntnisse testen.

Vroeger was alles ...

We werken aan een echte mindmap (volgens de technieken van Ed van Uden, gecertificeerd mindmaptrainer) over vroeger en familie. Ook leren we verschillende spreekwoorden, gezegdes en uitdrukkingen die met familie te maken hebben: de appel valt niet ver van de boom, een aardje naar je vaartje hebben, je eigen vlees en bloed, het zit in de familie... Vraag aan het einde van de week zeker uw zoon/dochter ernaar of gebruik de beeldspraak zelf. Op deze manier zal het beter beklijven.

Graag ontvangen we van alle leerlingen familiefoto’s: papa, mama, broers en zussen, tante en ooms, neven en nichten en opa’s en oma’s. We maken een grote SDS-stamboom.
