LITERACY

In our first week of Literacy we will be beginning a series of lessons investigating information texts and how opinions differ from facts. We will be interrogating some high quality non-fiction books to discover how important our oceans are for life on Earth. We  will then be looking at how these are formatted and arranged on the page with headings, sub-headings, quotes and captions.

MATHS

In our first week of Maths we will be reviewing and revising our operations of addition and subtraction.  We will revisit the methods used for numbers up to 5 digits, discussing our approaches and feedback on the precisionof outcomes.  We will also review our times-table skills.

THEMED LEARNING

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the first week we will introduce the topic and then have a dramatic, exciting experience for the children where we re-create the politics of water distribution and scarcity.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

We are starting the term thinking about E-Safety and how to keep our personal information safe. We will be learning about the the Zip it, Block it, Flag it strategy used by the UK council, which teaches us top categorise how safe information is and what to do if we see information we should not.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targtes for the term ahead. We will also welcome some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can be helpful in settling them into their new school.

Thank you to the students (and parents J) who helped with the amazing houses brought in the week. The children have recorded themselves presenting their houses. After the holiday, we will be starting to look at daily routines.

Diese Woche ging es feierlich, entspannt und vorweihnachtlich zu. Die Kinder haben neue Bücher für die Ferien ausgeliehen und haben Weihnachtskarten für die Eltern gebastelt. Toll wäre es, wenn die Kinder die Bücher in den Ferien lesen und dazu in ihren Lesetigerheften etwas malen oder schreiben würden. Es ist natürlich kein Muss, da sie zu allererst ihre Ferien genieβen sollen. Frohe Weihnachten und gesegnete Feiertage!

 La primera semana al volver de vacaciones, trabajaremos los posesivos en el sintagma nominal y la tilde en las palabras agudas. No hay deberes para vacaciones. !Pasad unas felices fiestas!

DUTCH

Blijspel

De komende weken werken de leerlingen aan een nieuw thema ‘Blijspel’. We kijken naar verschillende teksten en proberen die te herschrijven tot theaterstuk. De leerlingen werken van hun favorieten verhaal de verhaallijnen uit, maken een rolverdeling en zullen hun blijspel uiteindelijk opvoeren voor alle ouders.

Ook bereiden we ons voor op de Cito-toets die vanaf 13 februari zal worden afgenomen. We toetsen de onderdelen technisch en begrijpend lezen, woordenschat en spelling.
