Staff Profile: Stephen Davies

Stephen Davies

Music Teacher

Stephen completed his B.Mus. (Performance) in jazz improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University in Australia before going on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance and later a Graduate Diploma in Education at the same university.

Stephen’s first work was, surprisingly in a research laboratory working for CSIRO. He has been at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi for the past seven years and during that time has composed and published two volumes of children’s music using the material he has composed for his students. Stephen is an active performer and brings a love for music and music performance to the classroom.

Stephen has a passion for small group jazz and tries to find time in his busy schedule to maintain and develop his performance skills on the double bass. His two other interests are technology, particularly as it is applied to music composition, and reading. His favourite activity is spending time with his family, Yanna, Neo and Lennie. His two young boys love all kinds of transport so he spends a lot of time on trains and buses travelling around China.

What the students say about me...

“Thank you for giving us courage to perform.”

“Thank you for all the encouragement with my music. Mr Davies is my most favourite teacher in this school.”

“Mr Davies can play the recorder very fast. Thank you for teaching us all the kinds of songs.”
