Staff Profile: Sarah Jane Caldwell

Sarah Jane Caldwell

Year 6 Class Teacher

Sarah-Jane completed a BSC Psychology in Glasgow in 2003.  Over the next two years, she gained experience working with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties before completing her PGDE at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.   She taught in a state school in Glasgow for the next nine years where she took on a number or roles such as helping to develop aspects of ‘A Curriculum For Excellence’ within her school and coaching and developing running and netball squads.

She thoroughly enjoyed building and developing relationships with children, parents and the local community. Sarah-Jane enjoys implementing a cross-curricular approach to learning that enables the children to develop their enquiry skills, challenge themselves and, most importantly, have fun learning!

Sarah-Jane has always enjoyed working in partnership with schools in other countries and coordinated an international project throughout her school.  It was from visiting the children and staff from the schools involved in this project that inspired her to take the leap into international teaching and she is thrilled to be joining our team in Shanghai.

Always keen to learn new skills, Sarah-Jane is hoping to pick up some Mandarin now she is in China, as well as developing some much need cooking skills!  She is an enthusiastic netballer and previously played in the Glasgow Netball League.  Sarah-Jane is also eager to develop her photography skills, although there is definitely more enjoyment taken from this hobby than decent photographs! Other areas of interest include reading, climbing and learning about new and interesting cultures. Family and friends are very important to her and she is expecting lots of visits to China from her sister and young nephew in particular!
