    Head of Drama

    Marta Cotrim

    At the age of 19, Marta left Rio de Janeiro for Paris, looking for different acting techniques and theatrical aesthetics, from classical to experimental.

    Between 1990 and 1993, Marta lived in France and studied language and French literature at La Sorbonne, and Theatre Studies at Paris VIII University. In 1993, she moved to Amsterdam where she developed her contemporary dance techniques, and performance abilities. In the year of 1995, Marta travelled to Bali, Indonesia, where she studied Topeng. Once back in Europe, in England, she completed her Master's Degree in Dance Anthropology at the University of Surrey; she also took part in Physical Theatre Workshops lead by Monica Pagneux (Peter Brook´s movement director) and Simon McBurney from Complicite Theatre Company.

    Holly Mitchell

    Holly gained a 2.1 degree with honours at the University of Sheffield, graduating in the summer of 2010. She then transferred to Sheffield Hallam to undertake her teacher training, gaining a PGCE in secondary English.

    Holly believes in modelling learning for her students and understands the importance of developing her own practice, which is why she is currently completing a Master’s degree in Education.

    After working in a school in rural Northamptonshire for three years, she decided she would like a new challenge in an exciting environment. It was this that brought her to Shanghai.

    Charlotte Rakowski

    From a young age Charlotte has always loved working with children and started teaching the Piano and the ‘Cello when she was only 14. Throughout her Music degree at The University of Manchester, Charlotte worked in local schools and during the summer organised the activities programme of an international summer school. During her gap year, Charlotte gained her TEFL qualification and taught in Thailand, as well as volunteering in a Cambodian orphanage.

    Laurie Reeve

    Laurie started learning the piano at the age of three and later went on to learn the violin and viola. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London and Manchester before completing a degree in Creative Music Technology at Kingston University in 2006. He enjoyed a successful career as a musician before completing a PGCE at the Institute of Education in 2014.

  • Jonathan Doherty

    Jonathan Doherty

    Music Teacher

    Jonathan Doherty

    Jonathan started learning to play the piano at the age of five and developed a passion for composing at an early age. He studied both French and Music at Royal Holloway, University of London and after graduating spent a year teaching English in the French Caribbean. Jonathan returned to the UK and completed a Masters degree in Music Production at Leeds College of Music and developed expertise in popular music. Jonathan has had a successful career as a freelance musician in recent years as a keyboard player for bands at major events and festivals and decided to train as a teacher at the University of Huddersfield. He is looking forward to sharing his musical experience with pupils at BISS Puxi. He is a keen composer and songwriter and has had national airplay from BBC Introducing in the UK.
