Staff Profile: Chris Samsom

Chris Samsom

Head of Shanghai Dutch School

When Chris volunteered as an English teacher at a school in Cusco, Peru, she discovered her interest in education and decided to make teaching her profession. After finishing her Bachelor of Education she worked as a supply teacher at different primary schools in the city of Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, before working as a class teacher at a school for children with special educational needs (SEN).

Always keen to learn, she studied Dutch Language in the evenings. After graduating she switched to secondary education and worked at a secondary school for four years where she taught Dutch, Modern Foreign Languages and Geography. She also had the additional responsibilities of Key Stage 3 and was SEN Coordinator. Together with her husband, Job Mager, who is also a teacher at BISS Puxi, she moved to Shanghai in 2010 and worked as a primary and secondary school teacher and SEN Coordinator for the Dutch school at Shanghai Rego International School. She moved to BISS Puxi in 2012.

Chris is happiest when exploring China and beyond with a backpack and accompanied by her husband and her two young children. She loves hiking, camping, reading, cooking, eating and yoga. If time allows, she truly enjoys studying and furthering herself in the field of education.
