Staff Profile: Cindy De Borger

Dutch Teacher

Cindy graduated from the University of Ghent in Belgium.  She has a Master’s in Political and Social Sciences and specialised in Communication Sciences.  She chased her childhood dream and afterwards gained a Post Graduate Certificate of Education.  After several teaching assignments in Key Stage 1 and 2, she started teaching Dutch to non-native adult speakers.

Cindy loved working with people from different cultures and being creative with language. During this period she worked together with the Belgian government to design a language project for illiterate adults looking for work.

Cindy missed teaching children and in her free time she earned a Bachelor’s in Primary Education.  In  January 2014  she came to Shanghai after her husband was offered a teaching job in Secondary.   Shortly after arriving Cindy was offered the opportunity to provide supply teaching cover at BISS, mainly teaching Dutch and EAL in Key Stage 2.   She worked for the Early Years Department teaching English during Summer School and became a full time Pre Nursery teacher.   This year she was offered a job in the Dutch  Department, teaching her native language  to younger children.

Cindy loves exploring new horizons. She and her husband share the same passion for travelling. When their two children were born they started taking them along on their adventurous journeys. Cindy loves cycling, running and hiking outdoors, but most of all she likes challenging herself to become a better person, mum and teacher by broadening her interests and opening herself up to new impulses and ideas. Her belief is that learning is a lifelong process.
