Staff Profile: Lisa Cavanagh

Lisa Cavanagh

Head of Year 11 / KS4 Coordinator/ German and EAL Teacher

Lisa studied German with International Studies at Warwick University from 1991-1995. She then took a year out and completed her CTEFLA certificate for EAL and taught children in EAL schools in Oxfordshire. She then found herself working in retail management for 2 years, but felt that her heart lay in teaching and so returned to Warwick to complete her PGCE.

Lisa started teaching German and French at a secondary school in Northamptonshire in September 1999. Very early on in her teaching career she was fortunate enough to be able to take on a pastoral role as Deputy Head of House, Head of House and then Head of Year.

In the classroom Lisa’s strengths lie in her organisational skills and making each step of a lesson clear and connected. She encourages all the students in her lessons to participate and take risks. The decision to move to Asia was a long time in  planning and with her husband and two young sons, they have never looked back. BISS Puxi is everything a school should be and more, and offers incredible opportunities to students, parents and staff.

Lisa is married to Andrew Lancaster and they have two young sons, David and Thomas, both of whom attend the Primary School. They enjoy spending time together as a family and being here in Shanghai, they have the opportunity to explore and experience an incredibly exciting part of the world. Their weekends are spent together, whether chilling out in the local area with friends, or exploring a new part of town.  They love to travel, try new foods, see new things and as parents they are keen to encourage their boys to become global citizens and to grab the opportunities they have being here.
