Why Dover Court for my child’s education?
Our Upper Primary School curriculum focuses on helping your child to become an inspired and able learner, who is able to think for themselves and yet respect the views of others.
We give your child confidence in their own abilities, and an appreciation of their place in a diverse, changing and exhilarating world.
We encourage your child to love learning, and to apply what they've learned to other subjects and situations.
Special teacher/student relationships are at the heart of school life and the smaller size of our classes facilitates the personalised approach to education.
We provide a nurturing environment that addresses the needs of individual students, makes students feel valued, encourages risk-taking and helps students to understand how much they are able to learn from their own mistakes.
Ages in Upper Primary School
The Upper Primary School covers ages from 7-11 over four year groups:
- Year 3: Ages 7-8
- Year 4: Ages 8-9
- Year 5: Ages 9-10
- Year 6: Ages 10-11
How will my child learn?
The development of academic skills, communication skills, learning skills and life skills are combined in an environment of fun, vitality, excitement and action. Attitudes, not simply aptitudes, are reinforced as important factors for success, as is the ability to encounter and overcome difficulties.
Community harmony is maintained by good behaviour, and together we celebrate many successes and achievements.
Different sets in each class encourage students to strive to reach the best of their ability.
By providing a multitude of opportunities and diverse events, we are able to bring out the best in all students and help them develop the capacity to meet the problems and challenges of life and the will to play the game against all odds.
What curriculum will they follow?
The Upper Primary School curriculum at Dover Court is based on the English National Curriculum, but with a focus on educating children to prepare them for life in a global community.
The curriculum is developed from the principle that academic learning should be both enjoyable and personal.
What subjects will they study?
Using guidelines set out in the English National Curriculum, we build on your child's firm knowledge of English, Mathematics and Science. They will also be taught
- Physical Education
- Information and Communications Technology
Throughout their time in the junior school, your child will learn to become aware of themselves as an individual and to develop respect for other people and cultures.
