Our Learning Journey

We have had a fantastic week in NFD this week. The children have responded really well to school routines which is helping to make transitions around the school much easier. NFD had their first swimming lesson. It was lovely to see all their smiling faces as they splashed around and escaped from Mr Johnson the crocodile! In class the children have been busy making new friends. They are particularly enjoying making cakes using the play dough, serving tea in the role play and building train tracks together.

Mandarin

This week, the students focus on being able to understand how to introduce name and age of each other. Additionally, they start on a Chinese programme and sing a song related to “Where are my friends”. The students are given a set of flashcards and they are encouraged to share their learning with parents. Please refer to the link for the flashcards containing vocabulary words and key grammar structure.

Physical Education

The children have been continuing to negotiate space safely and independently, as well as gaining confidence within the cooper hall environment and with their teacher. In swimming the children have be gaining confidence in the training pool through aquatic games.

Music

In Music the children have been learning to understand the difference between the tempo and the rhythm, slowly achieving a steady beat by playing un-tuned percussions. They have practised singing familiar nursery rhymes whilst playing their instruments. They have been learning new songs from different cultures and new rhymes transitioning to actions and movement.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

This week we have been learning the names of our friends in class. Using the class photo (attached to this email) you can continue to practise saying their names at home. Class reading books will be sent home this week. Children will get to choose a book from the library corner. This book is for sharing with a grown-up or older sibling to encourage a love for reading. Get your child to talk about the pictures. When talking about the story, try asking what/why questions that will prompt more detailed answers.
