Our Learning Journey

This week the children have enjoyed learning about Christmas and have been getting into the festive spirit! The children have enjoyed talking about how they celebrate Christmas and sharing pictures and photos. We have been practising for our Christmas performance next week, and the children have found performing on the main stage to be very exciting!

Within the classes, there have been a lot of creative activities with the children making their own decorations for the class and Christmas pictures to decorate the hall.

In Maths we have been looking at patterns, ordering objects by length and height and recognising numbers with advent calendars. The children have enjoyed creating their own Christmas patterns and wrapping presents in the 'Elf Workshop'.

In literacy, the children have been learning how to write a letter so that they tell Santa what they want for Christmas. They have learnt how a letter begins and ends and how to create simple sentences.

Mandarin

This week the Reception children got to know another Chinese culture, Chinese ink painting. We learnt how to say “painting” and “Chinese ink painting” in Mandarin, and also had fun in learning to use leaves and ink to make our own Chinese ink painting. We also started to learn to say “festival” and” Christmas” in Mandarin. The students have been practising the Mandarin song item “Merry Christmas”.

Physical Education

This week the children have been creating their own target games, working in groups. They have been challenge to think about distance, difficulty and correct throwing technique for their target. In swimming, the children are using shark fins or kickboards to improve on their backstroke and freestyle, as well as fun games to finish this year’s swimming.

Music

In Music this week, your children have continued to practise playing a scale of 5 notes on the keyboard: CDEFG ascending and descending. They have also practised singing the Christmas songs that they will be perform in their concert.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

At home you can support your child with these fun Christmas games to recognise numbers and order numbers by size.

Please continue to practise sounding out and blending the list of words we sent home.

High frequency words of the week – I, my, he, be, said, are, you.

Next week's Show and Tell is all about your Child's favourite Christmas or celebration song. We would enjoy to hear songs from different cultures and different languages to share with the class. You could listen to some Christmas or celebration songs with your child to help them choose which song they enjoy the most. Then you could write it down on a piece of paper or email the class teacher a link of the song on YouTube etc, for us to listen to as a class.
