    DCIS Proms 2016

26th August 2016

This week in English we have been looking at a story called ‘Little Red’. We have used our imaginations to write setting descriptions of forests and worked hard to include figurative language. We also revised how to punctuate dialogue as well as writing a diary from a characters’ point of view using varied sentence openers. We have also chosen books from the library to read at home.

In Maths, we have been revising our knowledge of number and the four operations. We have looked at the most efficient methods to use and have applied these to word problems. We have also worked on our times tables and mental arithmetic.

Project Work

In IPC, we have been looking at the brain and how we learn. We have developed our understanding of the 8 personal goals and created posters showing what these mean to us. We have tried to understand how we learn best and have had a go at teaching each other new things using different learning styles.

This week, the students engaged in the Mandarin revision programme. They revised what they have learnt last term. Please refer to the link below to revise all the learnt vocabularies. Link: https://quizlet.com/_2fhz6f

Computing lessons start next week!

Physical Education

In PE lessons this week pupils have been shown and undertaken the cross country course that will be used during the cross country unit. In swimming, we have been enjoying getting some general lengths in after the summer break.

Music will start next week!

Design & Technology

This week, your child was introduced to the Design and Technology workshop. The first lesson centred upon learning about safety within the workshop and what Design and Technology is all about. Over this year, students will have an opportunity to gain experience in identifying design opportunities and working toward feasible solutions made from timber. By empowering students to be able to competently manipulate their physical environment, Design and Technology prepare students to be active participants in a rapidly changing and product-driven society.

Homework starts next week. Enjoy your weekend!
