Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

As the end of term is approaching, there are numerous activities, events and initiatives which need to be communicated to parents to ensure you are provided with the necessary information. So do bear with us as we forward all this information to you.

After the return of our students from the extremely successful Global Expeditions trip to Tanzania on the weekend, we have another week full of sports, meetings and workshops. This week includes:

1. A highly informative Parent Workshop on Communication Strategies with Children on Wednesday (details below).

2. Our DSE Leader, Alison Ford, is holding a meeting for DSE and learning support families on Friday in the Music Technology room (next to the DCIS Cafe). This will be an opportunity for parents involved to learn about developments at DCIS in these programmes.

3. Finally, and we are ending the week with two eagerly anticipated performances of Carols by Candlelight in Cooper Hall.  If you are planning to attend this event, please take the following survey to help us gauge for attendance and plan seating.

Parent Workshop on Communication Strategies with Children

Led by our Staff Specialists, this workshop will focus on how parents can foster the development of their children by creating an atmosphere of healthy dialogue. Whether you are parenting a toddler or a teenager, good communication is the key to building self-esteem as well mutual respect. This workshop will take place on Wednesday, 30th November, 8.30am – 9.30am in Cooper Hall.

Christmas at DCIS

This year, DCIS will be celebrating Christmas with a number of events across the community:

1. Carols by Candlelight, Thursday, 1st December and Friday, 2nd December from 6.30pm - 8.30pm in Cooper Hall

All families are invited to attend the Carols by Candlelight; however, due to space limitations we do ask families of Year 3 and Year 4 students to attend on the Thursday and families of Years 5 and above to attend on the Friday. Please take this survey to help us determine a headcount for seating in Cooper Hall. Students from Year 3 and above will be performing the same pieces each evening and Lower Primary families are welcome to attend either event. Click to read more about the Carols by Candlelight.

2. DCA Christmas Fair, Saturday, 10th December, 4.00pm - 7.00pm

The second annual Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 10th December from 4pm till 7pm. This is a DCA event organized by parents for the DCIS community and none of it would be possible without the help and support of volunteers throughout the school. Please click here to find out how you can lend a hand at this wonderful event.

3. Lower Primary Christmas Performances (Nursery to Year 2)

Please note that there has been a slight calendar change to the Lower Primary Christmas Performances for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. They will have their own separate Christmas assemblies on:

Tuesday, 13th December, Cooper Hall

10.00am Nursery and Reception

11.00am Year 1 and Year 2

Wednesday, 14th December, Cooper Hall

10.00am Nursery and Reception

11.00am Year 1 and Year 2

Details about the Lower Primary Christmas Performances will be sent out closer to the time.

We do believe that our parents and staff are also planning to decorate our campus this year and we thank you all in advance for bringing the festive season to DCIS!

UK Passports: Are yours about to expire?

As the holiday season approaches, the Consular Section at the British High Commission in Singapore is undertaking an awareness campaign about British passport validity, with the aim of reducing the number of Emergency Travel Documents  issued during the months of November, December and January. Remember: Most countries around Asia require six months’ validity on passports.

We kindly ask all parents and guardians to double check the expiry date on their passports to avoid any unpleasant surprises at the check-in counter.
