Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

If you have visited the Café today you will have noticed that the preparation work has started on our new building. Ms Lebihan has sent out specific communication to the year groups effected by the movement of the vertical playground. The hoardings contain the site very well and we will shortly use our creative skills to make them more attractive. As mentioned earlier this will allow us to add more specialist facilities for Primary (ICT and a creative space to support our MIT inspired STEAM projects) and cater for the expansion of the Secondary numbers with our move into a mainstream Year 13 class in August. In the short term, from January, it allows us to add an extra Reception class. We have had a number of siblings on our waiting list and so we are now able to take these children.

Nine members of our choir joined a joint British Schools choir (DCIS, Marlborough College, Tanglin and DCSG) to perform at the Remembrance Service at Kranji. The students were excellent and did a brilliant job representing the Dover Court community both in their singing and their demeanour around and throughout the service. Many thanks to Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Irving for organising the choir and taking them to all their rehearsals over the last few weeks. I was privileged to lay a wreath on behalf of the school as part of the service.

We found out this weekend that we have been shortlisted for a British International Schools Award in the category "Outstanding Senior Leadership Team of the Year".  We are very excited to be recognised alongside some other very well know International Schools and we’re really looking forward to the presentations in London in January. Full details are available here.

Best regards,

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

Lunch Service: Sodexo

As previously communicated the main cafeteria is not accepting cash payments, but the DCIS Café will continue to accept cash. Although, the cash facility in the DCIS Café is really designed to accommodate parents for occasional use, we recommend that all students are signed up for a Campus Online account. This limits cash on site and allows parents to track purchases that students make during the day through their Campus Online accounts. You can access the Campus Online page at this link.

UPCOMING DATES AND DEADLINE

  • Creative Writing Competition Deadline - Friday 24th November

  • For those students in Year 5 and 6 Mr. Winkley is running writing workshops in his classroom every Wednesday lunchtime to help prepare and give students support with this competition. These workshops are optional and operate on a first come first served basis.

GLOBAL CHALLENGE

  • The focus of the 2017/18 Global Challenge are the following Global Goals:
    • Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities
    • Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production
  • At Dover Court, we would like students to start thinking about these goals and if they have any initial thoughts, ideas and suggestions, then please speak to Jack Odey (Primary) or Erin Burk (Secondary).
  • More information regarding the Global Challenge will follow soon.

GLOBAL LIBRARY (Message for Under 8s)

  • Children Just Like me is a great book for introducing and exploring international mindedness with younger readers and is featured on this year’s Under 8 list on the Global Library. There is a really inspiring book trailer video for it https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=M4JEw3yfVGw.
  • Ollie in Year 1 at the new Nord Anglia campus in Sai Kung, Hong Kong has created a simple task for other students around our Global Campus to reflect on the book and join in. It uses a website called Flipgrid which makes it very simple for students and teachers to upload videos in response to a task or topic. He would really appreciate it if students and teachers in other schools would watch his video, respond and create their own short simple videos too. The task is particularly aimed at students 8 years and under but anyone is welcome to join in. You can access the Flipgrid page here: https://flipgrid.com/13e5bbundefined.
  • Students who want to take part in the Global Library must join via the online space on Global Campus Online.  When they join, they receive a certificate that celebrates their participation in the Global Library. They are also able to earn badges, please see the online space and teacher notes for more details.

The Great DC Bear Charity Sale

A final reminder that our student inspired DC Bears are available for purchase from School Reception for $25 with all profits being sent to charity. Read more about the sale here.
