NAE Global Campus

Welcome
A big welcome to all. We hope you have enjoyed a positive start to the new school year following a well-deserved break and are looking forward to building upon some of the great work achieved across our family of schools last year.

Overview of the 2017/18 Global Campus Programme
The Global Campus programme objectives are focused on enhancing extending learning; developing habits for success in the 21st century; developing global mindedness & internationalism; as well as showcasing and celebrating student learning and achievement. We have worked over the summer to try to ensure that our projects and competitions are meeting these objectives and have been looking for ways to build the offer around common curricula such as Performing Arts, STEAM, Humanities, Literacy, World Languages, and Sports, Health & Well-being. We are keen to further extend the impact of our collaborations with Juilliard, MIT and UNICEF by aligning wider Global Campus projects to complement them. For example, the themes for this year’s Creative Writing and Photographer of the Year competitions are linked to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, enabling our students to showcase the calibre of their work whilst also demonstrating a commitment to the objectives of our partnership with UNICEF.

Photography Competition
The Global Campus Photographers of the Year competition is now running. The theme is “Where I Live,” and the deadline is Monday, 2 October. Winners will be featured in a 2018 calendar that is distributed across schools. By entering this competition, students will also have the opportunity to have their work seen not only by our family of schools but also by people around the world!

Global Library

We are delighted to announce that the majority of the recommended reading books have been purchased and can be accessed at both the Dover Court Junior and Infant Libraries. The book lists are displayed in the libraries and the books are ready for the students to take out and read for pleasure.

NAE-UNICEF Global Goals Summit 2017 Recap
We are pleased to share that the UNICEF Global Goals Summit was a resounding success. UNICEF and UN representatives were incredibly impressed with the work our students did, both with the Global Challenge and whilst in New York City.

Global Campus Online Logins
Students will be given online login details to access the website soon. Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 will also be given a Global Campus Passport.

We wish you all well for the new school year and look forward to working with you!
Best wishes,
The Global Campus Team

NAE Schools News
DCIS is part of a family of schools and several schools in the US have been impacted by the recent severe storms. We would therefore, like to share the following message from our NAE CEO, Andrew Fitzmaurice:

As you are aware, there have been two severe hurricanes in the US recently. We are pleased to share that following Hurricane Irma, all reports are that our students, parents and staff at our schools in Florida, North Broward Preparatory School and Windermere Preparatory School, are safe and well.  Hurricane Harvey, however, has caused great destruction and disruption in Houston, significantly affecting families at the two NAE schools in the city; The Village School and the British International School of Houston. Although we are pleased to report that our students, parents and staff are safe and well and our schools are now open, there is still a long way to go before everyone has fully recovered.

Nord Anglia Education will be supporting both school communities through donations of funds to aid the relief efforts already underway. There is also a strong and heartfelt desire amongst many people in our family of schools to directly support the schools’ communities and so Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando has launched a GoFundMe initiative which we would like to make available to all our schools in order to bring together and make maximum impact from our efforts. Together, the donations from the Nord Anglia family will be used to support valuable initiatives at both schools including

  • transportation to help displaced staff and students reach their school
  • meals for displaced families
  • providing uniforms to students in need

We ask that you please let your teams and school communities know about this initiative and how they can contribute should they wish to do so.  Here is the Link to the GoFundMe Page, which you can copy and paste within your communication to your community:  https://www.gofundme.com/help-our-tx-nae-schools

We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and best wishes at this difficult time. Our communities at Village and BISH truly appreciate this support.

The Great DC Bear Charity Sale

A final reminder that our student inspired DC Bears are available for purchase from School Reception for $25 with all profits being sent to charity. Read more about the sale here.

Best regards,

Mr. Christopher Short

Principal
