Secondary School Coffee Morning

Tomorrow we continue with our coffee mornings designed to introduce our new parents to the DCIS community over coffee. This week we will host the Secondary School (Year 7 to Year 12) Coffee Morning in the Main Cafeteria. This meeting will be tomorrow, Tuesday, 7th January at  8.45am. It would be wonderful for all Secondary School Class Representatives to come along to meet the new parents in their classes. We look forward to seeing you then!

DCA Updates and DCIS Parent Representatives

With this term's first DCA event this week, you can click here to see all updates on the DCA web page or see the Meeting Minutes. We have also updated the list of DCA class representatives.

The DCA is such an important aspect of our community and is only 2 years old. The enrichment experiences they offer for our families are not only deeply appreciated by all, but also jolly good fun! We will soon be sending information about positions available in the DCA for the next academic year, and look forward to hearing from parents who can help continue the mission of the DCA Parent Association at DCIS. Details on the mission and purpose of the DCA can be found in the DCIS Parent Handbook on page 16.

Last Week's Workshops:

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Information Sessions

Last week, Miss Rinaldi led two workshops for parents on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Both sessions were well attended and saw Christopher Short, John Smith (Head of Secondary) and Miss Rinaldi go into great details of the what the IBDP means for the incoming students to our Sixth Form in August 2017.

Dover Court International School has been approved* for the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and is pursuing authorisation as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy: a commitment to a high quality, challenging, international education for our students in preparing them for the future. (Click here to read more)

Students from Year 3 right up to Year 12 took part, sharing a wide range of talents from singing, dancing, gymnastics, playing musical instruments, solving Rubik's cubes to entertaining us with comedy sketches, magic tricks and much more.

Please note: Students who missed their audition time can try out Tuesday 24th January by registering on the sign-up sheet at the Red Dot Radio Station.

NEW! Chinese New Year Competition, organised by students at NAIS Hong Kong.  Rebecca, Judy and Kelly, from Year 9 at Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, would like to say Xīn Nián Kuài Lè and wish all of Nord Anglia a Happy Chinese New Year and a warm welcome to the Year of the Rooster. To celebrate the New Year, they suggest you all read the moving and beautifully illustrated New York Times award-winning picture book  "A New Year’s Reunion” by Yu-Li Qiong.

They have created a competition that is open to all Nord Anglia staff and pupils. They would like you to either take a photo or draw a picture of what Chinese New Year looks like in your city.

Please submit your entries by adding them to the Padlet on the New Year’s Reunion page on the Global Library section on Global Campus Online. You can see more about this competition in this video: https://vimeo.com/200122016 (the students in the video speak in English and Cantonese)

The girls hope to announce the winners of the competition and share a video of their interview by the end of February. If you have any questions, please contact david.robinson@nais.hk for more information.

*DCIS has been approved for the IB Diploma Programme and has been authorized as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Dover Court International School believes is important for our students.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
