Staff Profile: Mr. John Smith

John Smith

Head of Secondary School

John Smith has a Masters Degree from the University of Birmingham and NPQH. He joined Dover Court International School from Doha British School where he was Head of Secondary School.

After graduation, John followed a career in the Investment Banking industry for 8 years before returning to university to complete a postgraduate teaching qualification. Following this he taught in Birmingham, UK, holding leadership posts as Head of Department and Senior Mentor of trainee and newly qualified teachers. During this time, John also completed a Masters in Education. In September 2010 John left the UK to join Doha British School in Qatar, becoming Head of Secondary in October 2011.

During his tenure in Qatar, he led the school through a period of rapid change, driving up standards of provision that resulted in year-on-year improvements to the school's IGCSE and IB Diploma results. John enjoys taking advantage of different cultural experiences around the world and taking the opportunity to travel with his family to a variety of destinations. He has recently been awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)  from the U.K. National College for Teaching and Leadership.
