Staff Profile: Marianne Harvey

Marianne Harvey

7/8/9 EAL: Head of EAL

Marianne is an experienced teacher of ESL and English; she has an in-depth understanding of the needs of the ESL learner. 

Marianne has years of experience teaching at secondary level both in the UK and abroad in Thailand. Prior to joining Dover Court International School Marianne managed a school provision catering for new arrivals to a large Central London borough.  

In all her teaching roles she has devised and designed the curriculum so as to deliver lessons which are tailored to students’ individual needs.  She creates lessons which positively address the interests and ideas of her particular students.  All her lessons encompass respect for cultural diversity.  She differentiates lesson activities to cater for students with a wide range of ability and social attitudes.  She believes in motivating students by showing them the rationale for lesson activities; she uses positive reinforcement and understands the importance of creating a happy and secure learning environment for each student.  Her lessons are designed and delivered so as to celebrate each student’s individuality.

Outside of school Marianne is a keen scuba diver and practises martial arts.  She loves to read and particularly enjoys foreign literature.
