Staff Profile: Matthew Tuckley

Matthew Tuckley

7C Form Tutor and Secondary School Science Teacher

Matthew graduated from the University of Brighton with a First Class Honours Degree in Ecology, following the completion of a more broad Biological Sciences Fd Sc. He continued his studies at the University of Portsmouth, entering a Secondary Science PGCE; gaining Masters credits for research into the effect of metacognition and pupil self-regulation.

During his time teaching Matthew has mentored trainee teachers and coordinated enrichment opportunities for the science curriculum. Prior to training as a teacher, Matthew worked as a Learning Support Assistant where he developed a keen insight into supporting those with additional needs

He was also store manager for a leading fashion footwear retailer in the UK, developing skills that have helped him motivate and lead in the secondary classroom setting. He spent a summer as a mentor for the National Citizens Service in the UK, a residential program promoting social integration of different ethnic backgrounds and developing school leavers skills for the world of work.

As a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award leader, he advocates a healthy and active, outdoors lifestyle. Having climbed Mount Kinabalu, skydived and participated in a 12 mile mud run!  In his social time Matthew reads popular science books and has a variety of sporting interests, regularly weight training and playing football.

Him and his wife Camila have spent many summers travelling together and are looking forward to returning to one of their favourite parts of the world during his appointment at Dover Court International School.
