Staff Profile: Richard Baines

Richard Baines

Year 4 Class Teacher (4RB)

Richard graduated from Liverpool University with a BSc Honors degree in Geography and Sports Studies before completing a PGCE in primary teaching, at Liverpool Hope University.

Originally from London, Richard moved to Liverpool in 1999 to study for a combined honors degree.  Falling in love with the city and realising his passion for teaching, he decided to stay a while longer and completed his PGCE.  Training in inner city schools on Merseyside provided Richard with an insight into the importance of teaching and the impact it can have on children’s lives.  His career in England has included a wide variety of experiences from London state schools to south-coast private schools.

Richard has taught in all primary age groups from Nursery to Year 6.  He has held various positions of responsibility including school council leader, Head of ICT and Head of Tennis.

Richard loves to travel and has been fortunate to visit many different countries around the globe.  He combined his love of travel with teaching in Kenya where he slept in a tent for three weeks and taught in a school on the edge of a Nairobi slum.

Richard has also worked in education in South-East Asia, which is one of his favourite regions on the planet.  In 2007 he volunteered to teach English in an orphanage in Cambodia and in 2016 he completed a year teaching at an international school in Thailand. He has recently completed his seventh year in the profession. Outside of the classroom, Richard loves to play a variety of sports and to read.
