Staff Profile: Sophie King

Sophie King

DSE Pathways 3 Class Teacher (4SK)

Sophie pursued her love of reading and writing by studying English Literature at Durham University. She then gained her teaching qualifications at the University of Manchester before moving to Cornwall where her teaching career began.

Sophie enjoyed two and a half years as an infant teacher at Dobwalls Community Primary School where she was also Music and Modern Foreign Languages Co-ordinator. She was kept very busy running the school choir, singing assemblies, the cross country team and Spanish Club. Following this, Sophie was Head of Primary and Autism champion at Oak Tree school in Truro, Cornwall where she worked closely with a small number of students with high needs. She found her time there incredibly rewarding. More recently, Sophie has been living and working in Australia.

She has gained lots of experience working at a variety of different schools in and around Sydney. Sophie's greatest motivation is to create stimulating lessons that excite children. She believes that when lessons are exciting children become inspired to learn. Sophie has been an avid reader and story writer since she was a child herself. Her passion for literacy and love of stories and creative writing exude through her teaching. She enjoys creating meaningful contexts for children to learn in and enjoys using drama and music to bring lessons to life.

Outside of school, Sophie loves travelling, reading, writing and sports. She is fluent in Spanish, plays piano and is (slowly) learning guitar. She is very proud to have competed in her first Ironman 70.3 triathlon last year and came 2nd in the Cornwall triathlon series. Sophie is delighted to be pursuing her love of teaching and triathlon in Singapore.
