Peter Winkley

EAL Class Teacher (5/6PW)

Peter graduated from the University of Plymouth with a B.Ed in primary education, specialising in science.

Following graduation, Peter worked initially in the EAL sector as a teacher and university lecturer, delivering English language lessons to both children and adults.  Peter then moved into primary school education, working with Year 1 and Year 2 students at a primary school in Devon. Here Peter was involved in developing a skills based curriculum to support the development of ‘Learning to Learn’ skills, critical thinking skills and emotional resilience.

Following his time in Key Stage 1, Peter moved to Key Stage 2, teaching Year 4 children also in Devon. Here he was instrumental in developing the ICT curriculum as well as outdoor learning across the school.

Peter’s next adventure took him to Dover Court’s sister school in Hanoi where he was involved in developing and delivering the ICT curriculum to children across the school. He was particularly involved in coordinating the Global Campus and developing assessment strategies for the school.

Peter is passionate about ensuring that all children’s needs are met, enabling them to reach their full potential, and is particularly interested in outdoor learning and how this can be used to support children to be robust independent learners.

In his spare time, Peter enjoys developing his personal interests which include photography, cycling, rock climbing and music. He also plays the guitar and is learning to play the piano.

Peter is delighted to be teaching in our EAL department at Dover Court.
