Dear Parents,

Today’s assembly was a showcase of Year 3 learning and it was very clear to see that they really have been working hard during their topic on dinosaurs. A focus for the primary department this term has been on speaking English with confidence and accuracy, presenting to different audiences and for different purposes; the children certainly spoke clearly with confidence and had learned some very difficult terms and facts. Well done Year 3! Thank you also to the children from the Ukulele ECA, who performed beautifully at the start of our assembly.

The assembly showed great examples of our Talk for Writing initiative which Is being used from the Foundation Stage to Year 6. Children are learning patterns of the language required for different types of writing. They start by internalizing a short exemplar text, using actions to accompany words and phrases. In this way the children hear the text, say it for themselves and enjoy it before seeing it written down. As a consequence, it is hoped that the individual writing produced by children has a better structure and a more accurate, adventurous use of language.

Today, you should have received your child’s interim school report. I hope you find the information useful and that it supplements the information you received in the parent and teacher meetings in November. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any further questions.

As we approach the final week of term this year, I would like to highlight some of the special events still to come! On Wednesday, the EYC festive sing-along ‘A Caroling We Will Go!’ will take place in the multi-purpose room. Children from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 1 are busy rehearsing in addition to making some very tasty, festive treats for us to sample. All parents are welcome to attend the event on Wednesday 14th December at 9am.

Next week, Phase 2 will be sharing their learning through an exhibition which will take place down the corridors outside the Year 2, 3 and 4 classrooms. The event will start with a short presentation in the Parent Meeting Room at 9am on Thursday 15th December.

A final reminder to all parents that our last day of term will be December 16th; all children will finish at 12:25pm. Please ensure that your child is collected promptly.
