Ms Sue Hill Weekly Update 18.3.2016

Dear Parents,

This week has been busy again at BIS. Our youngest learners in Foundation Stage have been to the aquarium and Year 2 to the Flower Market and Tay Ho Pagoda. Oh and there’s been lots of excitement in Year 4 as children have been preparing for their residential trip to Ba Vi which will depart next Thursday.

Year 5 welcomed guests from The Endangered Primate Centre in Cuc Phuong National Park to talk about the plight of the Delacour Langurs, Black langurs, Cat Ba Langurs and Grey-shanked Doucs. Mr. Kevin also shared a presentation about his time working with the gibbons at Cat Tien National Park in Southern Vietnam. This term we are concentrating on enquiry from our BIS Aide Memoire so it was really pleasing to see that the Year 5 pupils really were prepared with some excellent questions for our quests. Year 5 will get to observe the primates first-hand when they visit Cuc Phuong National Park on April 5th.

A dedicated group of teachers in our school have set themselves a challenge to work on improving our health and well-being. In the canteen, children are encouraged to make healthy choices from the salad area. Salads and vegetables which are really healthy are placed on green plates; this means we can eat as much as we like. Those dishes which are less healthy are on orange or even red plates. Only a little of these foods should be eaten. In addition to this the teachers have also met with the canteen manager to feed back the results of our pupil survey on favourite foods. New dishes are gradually being introduced into our canteen provision so we hope to increase the healthy options further. Being healthy also includes getting lots of exercise so children are encouraged to take part in active play during their break times. Please help your child to make healthy choices at home too.
