Learning through Language

Learning through Language
Learning through Language As Mr Rowlands passionately stated in the secondary assembly, we don’t want any of our children to be excluded from talking to each other. When in school, the children must seize the opportunity to discover more from the people around them by using our common language of English.

Living in Hanoi is an extraordinary privilege. This week my family went to buy three Ao Dai for next week’s Moon Festival.  With no Vietnamese language, I don’t think we got a bargain but as always, when we try to speak the language, we learn a little more about our fascinating host country.

Nelson Mandela said, “Without language, one cannot talk to people and understand them;  one cannot share their hopes and aspirations, grasp their history, appreciate their poetry or savour their songs.”

We now have 19 different nationalities within BIS Hanoi.  There are so many songs to hear and dreams to share.  As Mr Rowlands passionately stated in the secondary assembly, we don’t want any of our children to be excluded from talking to each other. When in school, the children must seize the opportunity to discover more from the people around them by using our common language of English.

Excellence in Geography

Congratulations to Mr Jim Schofield and James Forster, who have led their department towards attaining an internationally recognised award.  Mr Schofield explains further:

“Today is an important milestone for the Geography Department here at BIS Hanoi as we have been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark awarded by the Geographical Association of the UK. Both myself and Mr Forster have been working over the last year to audit the Department in various aspects (using our students as a key source of feedback) including teaching and learning; pupil attainment and achievement; and leadership and management. The award confirms our dedication to continual improvement and the provision of the highest quality Geography education for your children.”

Mr Tim Webb, Head of Secondary
